Obituary
Sharon D. Carter was born in Washington, DC on June 4, 1951. She departed this life on May 09, 2024, peacefully at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland. “Goldie” as she was affectionately called by family and friends will now be joined with her daughter Donique T. Carter, father Sherman I. Carter, mother, Geraldine T. Jones (Bender), and her brother, Mychal J. Turner into eternal rest.
Sharon leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted son Andre Carter (Tamara), a daughter Charese Carter, grandchildren Kaylin Carter (Jazmyne), Ayahla Kitchens, Ayonte Carter, Ayonlah Carter, great grandchildren Riley Carter, Nikko Carter and Tenahj Carter. A loving god-daughter Brittany Jackson and a host of other family members and friends.
A native Washingtonian, Sharon was raised Catholic and educated in the D.C. School System. Her early career focused on children and education. She worked as an educator for special needs student at Duckworth Elementary School with the Prince George’s County School System in Maryland. She would move on to work in the family dry-cleaning business, interior design, ultimately focusing on being a homemaker and her love of “little people”, as she affectionately referred to children in her care.
She first moved to Prince George’s County in 1974, relocated and returned in 1984 where she settled and created roots lasting 40 years. Here she found an extended family and was dedicated to created bonds and building relationships. Becoming a notable staple in the community of Capitol Heights, Maryland. She was committed to a life of leadership and service which fulfilled her giving spirit.
Sharon was kind, caring, and a nurturer. She demonstrated her love through her cooking and caring for others. She was known to be a phone call away, a listening ear, arms of comfort and sincere with her actions and words. Although active until the Lord called her home, she enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and loved ones. Sharon will be remembered for her boundless energy, curiosity and enthusiasm for life. She left an impact on every person she met with her caring selfless nature.
