Shanoi's obituary
Shanoi Kareem Grant was born on March 26, 1987, on the island of St. Thomas to Ann Charles and Myles Grant. From an early age, Shanoi’s joyful spirit and sense of humor lit up the lives of those around him. As a child, he was affectionately nicknamed “Mr. Magoo” by his uncle, a name that perfectly captured his playful and funny nature. He later came to the United States with his sister, Shernell, where, together with their hardworking mother, built a life filled with love, resilience, and lasting memories.
As a young man, Shanoi had a gift for connecting with people and a curiosity for discovering new places to enjoy his love for music and dancing. He enjoyed playing video games, creating family vlogs, and celebrating life’s special moments with those he loved most. His cousins’ children affectionately called him “Uncle Noi Noi,” cherishing the joy he brought through laughter, playful tickles, and his lighthearted jokes about getting old.
As he grew older, Shanoi’s faith deepened and became a guiding force in his life. He drew closer to God and made it a daily practice to send scriptures to his family each morning, starting their days with love, encouragement, and positivity. He never failed to check in, reminding everyone to have a great day and to hold onto hope.
On August 15th Shanoi passed away at the age of 38. Though he faced many challenges during his battle with sickle cell disease, Shanoi carried himself with grace, strength, and an inspiring spirit of resilience. He was deeply cared for and admired by the doctors and nurses who came to know him during his hospital visits.
One thing we know for sure about Shanoi is that he loved his family. Shanoi is survived by his loving mother, Ann Charles; sister, Shernell Grant; and a host of many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He will be remembered for his laughter, his kind loving heart, and the joy he brought to everyone blessed to know him.
