Background
The whole time I worked with Shan and certainly before we met, she wanted to be able to step back and write and publish her body of work. Inevitably Shakti Rising, the organization would need her attention and so she wasn’t able to complete her project.
When we decided to close Shakti Rising the organization, she and I turned towards this writing process again. I was her writing doula and she wanted to start with Salt. We had been polishing up the Elemental Salt curriculum including Salt of the Earth, Heart of Feminine Wisdom, Unlimiting your Beliefs, Salt of the Sea, and the dream and grief ceremonies for a year. So we began an organic research process on Salt. We were interested in understanding why salt is the prima materia and why it is necessary for ensoulment. Shan passed suddenly a month in to this process.
On her deathbed, she signed Shakti Rising over to me, giving me her intellectual property and asking me to complete the writing and get it out there. She said not to let her life’s work be for nothing. Then asked “that’s not too much responsibility is it?” For those of you who have not been what those of us who have worked closely with her call Shannon Thompsoned, this is a moment where she hands you an impossible task. You can say no but that means remaining in the land of the mundane and missing out on an adventure of soul calling. I said yes. Or rather no it’s not too much responsibility. In hindsight, what’s more true is yes it is too much and also yes I will do my absolute best to complete it.
Like in the myth of Psyche, the goddess of soul, these impossible tasks cannot be completed without help. If you wish to support getting her work out there, your donation will go towards the graphic design and publication of the immense volumes of curriculum, manuals, spellbooks, and trainings. This starts with elemental salt, but includes the Shakti model, the apprenticeship program, our women’s mystery groups and facilitators trainings, all of our other classes and the 9 gates work for individual and community transformation. Among other things. Your donations will go to beautifully designing, producing and distributing these texts.
