Shannon's obituary

Shannon Jade Janus, passed away suddenly at the age of 20, on May 25th, 2025. She passed away alongside her brother James Janus 19, and Mother Cindy Tweedy 53, in Ruskin, Fl. Shannon was born August 3rd, 2004, in Ann Arbor Michigan and moved to Florida when she was 5.

Shannon knew from a young age that she wanted to work with animals. When she was a child, she wanted to become a dolphin trainer but decided not to when she learned how many of them did more harm than good. Whatever career she thought of always had the same goal in mind: to help animals. She started working at horse stables when she was 14. Later, she started her own pet sitting company. Her pet sitting company had over 60 reviews and was rated 5 stars. She was described by customers as diligent and knowledgeable with their pets.

She graduated high school in 2022 and moved back to Michigan to attend Washtenaw Community College. Her major was Wildlife Conservation and Environmental Sciences. She moved back to Florida after graduation and worked at Friends of Strays in St. Pete as an animal behavior specialist and veterinary assistant. She was very passionate about this shelter and shared lovely adoption stories. Her favorite part of the shelter was that it was a no kill shelter, and she felt that they really aligned with her morals of animal care. She was accepted into Alaska University and was planning on attending next year. One of her dreams was working with Alaskan wildlife, and she was on track to pursue that dream.

Shannon’s life touched so many. Not only was she a true and loyal friend, but she was an amazing sister, daughter, and inspiration to all who knew her. We ask that her friends and family remember all that she’s accomplished and the life that she lived. Those who had the pleasure of knowing her knew how much light she carried. We ask that you continue walking in that light in her honor. We ask that you remember her laughter and all her passion. Together we remember the life of Shannon Jade Janus, a life that was taken too soon.

Shannon will be missed by her family members, Jason Janus; grandparents, Joe and Sandy Janus; uncle, Jeff Janus; aunt, SheaAnn Janus Mellendorf (Matt); aunt, Sue Kabat (Dave); and Uncle, Darren Tweedy (Lori); as well as many cousins and extended family.
