Shannon's obituary
Shannon Lynn Hogan
February 25, 1937 – November 24, 2024
It is with gratitude, sadness, and deep love that we announce the passing of Shannon Lynn Hogan, our beloved mother, grandmother, artist, adventurer, explorer, and friend. Shannon died courageously, beautifully, and peacefully at home in Redondo Beach, California on November 24, 2024, at the age of 87, surrounded by family.
Born on February 25, 1937 in Peoria, Illinois, Shannon knew she was an artist from the time that she was three years old. From drawing fashion illustrations for top Chicago department store ads in the 1950s to contributing to Judy Chicago’s Dinner Party project in the 1970s, and later becoming one of Los Angeles’ top story board artists in the 1990s, Shannon spent her entire life exploring artistic creativity in its many modes and mediums. “Artists decide what the world looks like,” she used to say.
Though their marriage ultimately ended, she met her husband, Robert Hogan, in Chicago in 1956 and over their 22-year marriage they moved from New York to Los Angeles and raised a family of three boys, Chris, Stephen and Jud. Shannon’s legacy continues through the art she created while she lived and, ultimately, through her grandchildren, Susanna and Liam, whom she loved beyond words.
Life may have started for Shannon in Peoria, but her adventurous spirit and love of exploration took her around the world: from hiking and backpacking in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains to sightseeing temples in Japan, from standing on the Great Wall of China to living in Oaxaca, Mexico.
A celebration of Shannon’s life and an opportunity to say a final goodbye will be held on Saturday November 30, 2024 from 11:30AM – 3:30PM at an intimate location with friends and family in Venice Beach. Shannon will be cremated, and her ashes returned to the mountains she loved in a private ceremony at a later date.

Her fierce independence and depthless creativity were an inspiration to her family and to her friends. She lived a wonderful life and will be missed forever.
