Personal note

Thank you to everyone for the support and love you have shown Shannon and her family. We warmly invite you to join us for her Celebration of Life on July 8 in Davis, CA. The ceremony will start at 11am, but guests are welcome to arrive from 10am onward to stroll the grounds, enjoy cookies/drinks, and view a slideshow. Lunch will be served following the ceremony.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend in person so that we can ensure there are plenty of seats and refreshments for everyone (see below or click on "events" tab for additional details). For those unable to attend in person, we will be live streaming the celebration at https://zoom.us/j/97836984019, as well as recording it.

Please send your favorite photos, stories, and/or fun facts about Shannon to remembershannon23+photos@gmai…. These will be shared with her family and possibly those who join us for her celebration (let us know if you'd prefer for them not to be shared so broadly). Posting photos and/or written messages to this site is also very welcome.

Updates

Update from July 7, 2023

Hi everyone,

We’re looking forward to spending time with you at tomorrow’s Celebration of Life and the related events. To help you plan, we wanted to share some last-minute details / reminders surrounding the events:

Those attending virtually can join starting at 10:50am to hear live music by Christopher Sierzchula via this zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/97836984019

The in-person event will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis (https://www.facebook.com/uuda…) The address is: 27074 Patwin Rd, Davis, CA 95618. Please park in the parking lot for the UCD.

Those attending in person are invited to join us from 10am onward to stroll the grounds which include a lovely labyrinth (the weather should be beautiful!), enjoy cookies/drinks, and view a slideshow. The ceremony will start at 11am and will include an opportunity for anyone who wishes to share a reflection about Shannon or on her behalf – we welcome you to do so if you feel so inclined. A taco bar lunch will be served directly following the ceremony. Also, please feel free to wear festive colors. Shannon asked that her memorial be a nod to her awesome, fiesta-themed wedding!

Later in the day, at 3pm, those who wish will meet at Shannon's grave in the Davis Cemetery for more remembering and to blow bubbles under a lovely shady tree, an activity she wanted people to enjoy for years to come (location: https://goo.gl/maps/6ycx4TbK2…)

Then, from 5-9pm in evening, everyone is warmly invited to an evening reception at Sudwerk Restaurant & Brewery (2001 2nd Street, Davis, CA 95618 https://www.sudwerkbrew.com/) which will be hosted by friends of Shannon’s from UC Davis. Sudwerk is very kid friendly, has shade, outdoor misters, and a fire pit. There will be appetizers provided, a cash bar, and many will be staying to eat dinner. Please come for the entire time or drop by anytime between 5-9pm – and feel free to stay for several hours or just drop by for a few minutes (see posted updates on Everloved page for additional details).

We will also be collecting canned goods and nonperishable food donations at the Celebration of Life and at Sudwerk's to benefit Davis Community Meals & Housing. We’re doing this in honor of Shannon, who valued service to others, compassion, and love to others above all else. (Please feel no pressure to contribute, especially if you will be traveling from out of town).

Thank you so much for celebrating, honoring, and remembering Shannon with us.

With love and gratitude,
The Planning Committee

Update from July 5, 2023

All of Shannon’s family and friends are warmly invited to the reception following the Celebration of Life on Saturday, hosted by friends of Shannon’s from UC Davis. ***At 5pm we have rented out a private space on the outdoor patio of Sudwerk Restaurant & Brewery***, which is very kid friendly, has shade, outdoor misters, and a fire pit for us. Sudwerk’s is a lovely Davis spot where Shannon and Landon used to visit with friends. There will be appetizers provided, a cash bar, and many of us will be staying to eat dinner. Please come for the entire time 5-9pm or drop by anytime between 5-9pm – and feel free to stay for several hours or just drop by a few minutes. A slideshow will be playing with photos of Shannon+family/friends, and music will be playing with songs that Shannon loved to sing and dance to.

We know the Celebration of Life will be an emotional experience that each of us will experience differently; so afterwards we wanted to provide a reception venue that would be suitable for anyone who may be:

–looking for a place to meet up with their group of friends/family for an impromptu reunion;

–or doesn’t have the energy to plan where to have dinner on Saturday night;

–or wants a casual, informal place to just unwind and relax after the day;

–or wants a private space to hug or cry in a corner table with a loved one;

–or who wants a more social space to commiserate with others, share hilarious Shannon stories, and uphold the spirit of Shannon – who was the best party planner and always created an environment that was inclusive to everyone, joyous, and fun!

And to honor Shannon’s unwavering commitment to service: we will be collecting canned goods and nonperishable food donations at both the Celebration of Life and at Sudwerk's to benefit Davis Community Meals & Housing – in honor of Shannon, who valued service to others, compassion, and love above all else. (no pressure to contribute, especially for those traveling from out of town)

We hope to see you at Sudwerk’s for the reception!

–Love Mark, Dario, Audrey, Kelly, Heidi, Jin, Carolyn, Pega, Jonny, Andrew, Jen, Wei-chun, Megan, Mike, Lauren, Emily, Christine

Update from June 30, 2023

Hi friends and family of Shannon,

We’ve received several messages from people who would like to contribute to Shannon’s GoFundMe, but read that it was closed on the Everloved website. We wanted to let you know that the GoFundMe is still open and can be accessed at https://gofund.me/fcd9bc5d. Everloved unfortunately defaults to an incorrect “fundraiser is closed” message when users choose not to add one of their platform-specific fundraisers – we appreciate you reaching out about the message and are sorry for any confusion it has caused!

Thank you again for all the love and support you have shown Shannon and her family. We are so looking forward to celebrating her with you in person and virtually next week. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to remembershannon23@gmail.com if you need any help arranging lodging or something else in the meantime!

Love,
Christine
