Shanna's obituary
Shanna moved to Seattle, Washington with her mother and little sister in 1970. Her early education began at Beacon Hill Elementary School before ultimately graduating from historic Garfield High School in the class of 1986. She then attended her freshman year of college at Washington State University. On May 22, 1987, Shanna gave birth to her first son, Terrance DeVaughn (O’Neal) Woodbury, and began the most cherished job of her life, mothering.
Determined to forge a new life for her and her family, Shanna transferred to the University of the District of Columbia in 1990. Shortly after that in November of 1991, she met the love of her life, Johnny Woodbury, while working together at Service Merchandise. They eventually married on November 12, 1995 and together, they had two beautiful children, Alexis Woodbury on October 15, 1996, and Johnny Woodbury, Jr on June 21, 2001. Shanna also played an instrumental role in raising her step-daughter, Jonte’ Woodbury (Johnny Woodbury).
Shanna committed her life to ensuring that her children and family could reach their full potential and become contributing members to society. Amongst the proudest moments of her life was sending all three of her children to storied HBCU’s to pursue their dreams. Ultimately, Shanna would relocate her mother, four siblings, and their families to the DMV area in 1999 where they all still reside to this day.
During her 32 years in the Washington, DC area Shanna’s ambition continued to fuel her professional success as she went on to serve as a Project Manager at some of the largest telecommunication’s companies in the world including MCI, Nextel, Sprint, and CenturyLink. Her favorite pastime was traveling the world’s most beautiful beaches, which she did at least three times a year with her husband, children, and closest girlfriends.
Shanna accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 25, and she remained dedicated to her faith while being a member at New Samaritan Baptist Church from 1994 – 2011, and eventually joining Mount Ennon Baptist Church in 2011. Being diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in 2019 only strengthened her faith as she used her personal testimony to bring others closer to God until her untimely death on Mother’s Day while surrounded by her husband and children.
