Shane's obituary

Shane Alexander Young, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and true jack of all trades, passed away on July 28th, 2025, in Tampa, Florida, the city where he spent most of his adult life and called home. He was 66 years old.

Born on August 29th, 1958, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Shane grew up in nearby Akron, right in the middle of a lively household of eight siblings—four brothers and four sisters. Tim, Brad, Tab, and Shawn were his brothers and then Denise, Michelle, Simone, and Yvette were his sisters who all loved him dearly. From a young age, he stood out as the middle child with his boundless energy, bold personality, and drive to try everything life had to offer.

Shane was a man of many talents and wasn’t afraid to reinvent himself. Early in his life he was a professional wrestler, known in the ring as both “Wild Bill Garrett” and “Freight Train Engine.” He was also a heroic firefighter in his younger years and later worked as a contractor while he dabbled in many other trades—there wasn’t much he couldn’t figure out or fix. He was endlessly creative, always picking up a new skill or hobby just to see what he could make of it.

Shane loved God, good music—especially old-school rock—and anything that made him feel alive. Neil Young was his all-time favorite, and you could often catch him playing his guitar and singing with heart. He was an artist with a pencil, a weightlifter with serious strength, and a man who could charm just about anyone—especially the ladies.

He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 47 years, Teresa Marie Young, and their two sons, Shane Young and Chad Young. He was a proud grandfather to seven beautiful grandchildren—two grandsons and five granddaughters—all of whom he loved dearly and who brought him immense joy.

Our reunion, full of healing and connection, is one of the greatest gifts he left behind.

Shane’s legacy is one of laughter, music, strength, resilience, and unforgettable charm. He taught us to live boldly, love deeply, and never take life too seriously.
