Shakeema's obituary
Shakeema Monique Catrice Jones was born on June 6, 1979, at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, New York along with her twin brother to her parents Rosemary Taylor and Earl David Jones. On Friday, December 19, 2021, at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in Concord, North Carolina, Shakeema fell asleep in death at the age of 42 years old.
She attended Andrew Jackson high school for a short period of time and continued her education at Graham Windham where she earned her high school diploma. Shakeema currently lived in Kannapolis, North Carolina with her son and loved working with people which pushed her to work in retail and community service. Shakeema’s love for God and his promise of a paradise earth, moved her to begin studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses; which she thoroughly enjoyed.
At the age of 25 years old Shakeema was diagnosed with a debilitating illness, which could have easily stifled her joy, but she never let this hinder her; she was a bright light and a lover of life. She enjoyed traveling as much as she could, but more than anything she enjoyed fashion! Trust me, everywhere she went she was fly and all eyes would be on her. No matter the place, she carried herself with style and grace! Shakeema was a music lover! Sadè was her favorite singer and she would move and groove along to her songs. Shakeema also loved reggae music and her dance moves were amazing. You could not tell her she was not the dancehall queen, and she would let you know if you were doing it wrong. Shakeema enjoyed watching movies! Comedies and scary movies were her favorites; although scary movies gave her nightmares.
One thing Shakeema cherished the most was the long talks with her twin brother Ka-seem. They would reminisce about the time while living in Manhattan at the age of seven when they set their bed on fire. They tried to put it out which didn’t work, and they had a huge laugh about it. Shakeema had a laugh that was so infectious that she could make you laugh even if you felt like crying. Shakeema was a natural giver of care, with a pure heart! No matter what you needed, if Shakeema had it, you had it! She was a true friend and loved people with all her heart. Speaking of love, Shakeema loved her son Lamonte (affectionately called Fat-Fat) with all of her being.
Shakeema’s memories will live on through her son Lamonte Jones, her brothers Ka-seem Jones (spouse Tricia Jones), William DeVaughn (spouse Arhi DeVaughn), and Stanley DeVaughn. Her sisters Tisha DeVaughn, Rainer DeVaughn, Agnus Jones, Denise Jones, LaToya Newsome, Makieta Wilson-Thompson, and Efa Williams and her parents, Rosemary Taylor, Roxanna Jones, and Earl Jones. Shakeema also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, cherished friends, and extended relatives who will miss her dearly.
