Shadow's obituary
"Love found us "
One stormy night, 11 years ago, Megha and I were relaxing in our living room. We had just finished dinner and were preparing for bedtime. As we were about to head upstairs to our bedroom, we heard a loud meow at the front door. We were surprised and concerned due to the odd hour and the bad weather. As the meowing continued, we curiously approached the door and answered. As we stepped out to the porch, we saw a beautiful but frightened cat. He was looking for some shelter for the night. Megha, with her big heart and love for all animals, turned to me and said, “we have to do something”.
The days that followed involved knocking on doors in our neighborhood, trip to the local vet (Bytown Cat Hospital) to search for pet registry, making posters of found cat, hoping to reunite a family with their lost member. The search went on for few weeks but no results. Many families in our neighborhood offered to adopt, but Megha and I were clear – he knocked on our door and we answered. He was our responsibility.
As days passed, bond between us started to grow. Kitchen, bedroom, living-room, bathroom, stairs, outdoors, he followed us EVERYWHERE...like our Shadow. It was time for us to make things official.
Next several years, we all learned to live with one another. Shadow learned that we like to sleep in on the weekends. We learned that he enjoyed his breakfast at 6am, no matter what day. I recall one fine Saturday morning my wife and I were just sleeping in. Shadow decided to offer us breakfast in bed! He woke us up that morning with his playful nature and meowing. At first we did not notice, but few screams after, Megha and I jumped out of our bed and found a dead mice on our bed. Shadow I guess was hunting in morning and decided we could use some food. Thanks Shadow! It was disturbing and mildly cute at the same time. He truly had good hunting skills.
Shadow was the calmest cat we have ever known. He loved children and gave love unconditionally. When our daughter, Dahlia was born, he was around her like a guardian. As we were learning how to to be parents for the first time, Shadow kept us company and gave all of us love and calmness. Anytime Dahlia would cry, he made sure we knew she was crying.
Our families and friends truly cherished him and he will forever remain with us in our memories.

My heart will always hold a piece of your heart. "
