Background
My name is Michelle and today I come to ask for help for an unfortunate situation that hasnt only been a hardship of loss but,a financial hardship as well.
Sadly on May 26,of 2020, my mother Serena Dee Fisher was called home and not without a year long vigorous fight on her part...
She told me one day that her ribs were hurting like someone had kicked her and I said well mother who jas been kicking you then? He snorted and said dont be silly Michelle,no one has been kicking me! I turned to a more serious note and said she should go to the hospital and she replied she had a routine Dr check up the followimg day. The next day she came to my home after seeing the P.A. whereas she had suggested she thought it was my mother's liver causing her the pain since she ruled out all other possibilities. She released my mother to go home setting her up a future visit. About an hour or so later I heard an ambulance coming down our street,(we lived 2 houses apart)my heart dropped,I knee it was her somehow and bolted out my front door and ran all the way to her house where she was unresponsive and her husband called 911! She was admitted to the ER then immediately moved to ICU with double pneumonia and was in serious condition being that in 1986 she was in ICU in a coma on life support for 9 months with a collapsed lung due to complications for pneumonia. Thank the Lord shed pulled through but not without having to learn how to do everything all over agsin such as walking&talking. The Dr.s had to perform trecheostomy from being on the ventilator&life support machine. I was 9yrs old then. So I shouldn't have to say that she had a pretty extensive medical record that you'd think her last&most recent Dr of over 10 yrs would of reviewed her medical history before letting a Physcians Assitant make or lack making a medical diagnosis where as a patient was released to go home with symptoms or issues that directly go together with a past medical condition, that's not what happened at all. Instead,my poor mother remained in ICU for about a month after going through 3 more tracheostomies due to difficulties of having to push through 35yrs worth of scar tissue from the first one all those years ago. She was then transported to Austin TX about an hour away from all of her family, knowing no one in that city and scared that everytime she went to sleep she would never wake up again having to die all alone.
She stayed there for about 6 wks saying they weren't doing anything g to help her to rehabilitate except for throw a ball to her. We couldn't afford to send her anywhere else because by that time her insurance was running out. Luckily I was able to pull a few strings getting her into a skilled nursing facility she used to work for years prior. After a short time her medical insurance did run out and we had to bring her to her home without really any help.she couldn't walk and barely talk with a partial teach still in her throat,a nurse once or twice a week to go through her prescriptions throwing everything away saying it be easier to reorder, leaving her for a week with no meds because the order was said to of Been "put in wrong".
Needless to say there was no physical therapy except 2 visits that were permitted per her Medicare plan. No home care nursing to assist us with bathing except once where they sponge bathed her in her bed with no plastic lining for her bed or floor then left the wet bed sheets on for her to lay in. No nurse to help us in changing diapers ECT.she was on a stomach tube.no instructions on how to feed her through that tube. My 17 yr old daughter and myself became nurses over night, day&night. Both having bad backs due to medical issues having to lift my mother numerous times a day as we are both on the. Small side, my daughter a whopping 94lbs and 123 myself .It wasn't easy lifting my mom 142 lbs when she couldn't move any limbs or support her own weight. INFACT,she ended up falling out of bed as we had no medical bed,(due to insurance) or lack of...but she broke her hip&was rushed to the hospital then air delighted to San Antonio Tx for emergency surgery where the surgeon nicked a vine accidently causing her a permanent condition called drop foot. My mother to never walk again on her own!
There was some more coverage found somewhere deep in the policy that covered 3 to 4 more wks in the nursing home then they booted her out after the CNA stole all of her. Beloved jewellery right off of her waking her up from the pain of them snatching her earrings out of her ears and yanking het rings off her fingers. My mother was terrified. So back at home with no medical help we took care of her and then covid-19 hit. She made it about about a month after the pandemic was announced. I miss her dearly. This story was just an awful fraction of my mom's life. There's so much more to tell like how beautiful and amazing she was! How she helped so many in so many different situations.Helped me raise my son and daughter and I don't know what I would of done without her. She worked in a nursing home for over 20 yrs before her retiring just before her passing at age 66. She was a great friend, my best friend.a loving wife. A mother, grandmother&great grandmother. She was a wonderful woman and a great loss. I can only pray that all we have been told about God,faith and reconnecting with our loved ones in an after life are true because I can't seem to get by a day without her. I'm asking for a big favor from anyone this story may have touched that are even in a position to help with the world going the way it is currently and the economy being so horrible, which is this...i managed to get a humble blank piece of granite that this Angel of a man cut out and gifted me with after hearing my story of my mom's passing, I am disabled living month to month and hand to mouth and can't afford to have it engraved or a stand or base to prop the headstone up on her grave. She was hurried a town over in a city cemetery where it is all rock and they even cut her grave out crooked and she isn't even all the way six feet down. No border around her grave separating her from the next. No shade tree or bench or vases for flowers. Contribute
