Seo's obituary
Seo-Yeon Ji-Young "Seo" Choi, 17
January 10, 2008 – January 2, 2026
With heartfelt sorrow, we remember the life of Seo-Yeon Ji-Young Choi, lovingly known as Seo, who passed away on January 2, 2026, in Brooklyn, New York—just eight days before her 18th birthday.
Born on January 10, 2008, in Seoul, South Korea, Seo brought joy and laughter into the world from the very beginning. Her journey led her to Brooklyn, where she embraced life with energy and a heart full of dreams. A proud member of the Class of 2026, she was preparing to graduate this year—a milestone she pursued with determination and hope.
Seo had a vibrant personality that lit up every room. Known for her humor and warmth, she made lasting impressions on those around her and built meaningful connections both near and far. A gifted artist, she expressed herself through drawing and found joy in singing and watching fireworks—moments that filled her with wonder.
She also shared her passions online through a cherished Instagram account under the name “bidiselena,” dedicated to celebrating Tejano music icon Selena. Through this platform and various group chats including an English-only safe space Seo created communities where people felt seen and accepted. Her commitment to connection was further reflected in her dedication to learning English so she could communicate more deeply across cultures.
Tragically, Seo took her own life on January 2nd beneath the sound of fireworks. Though this loss is immeasurable, we honor her for the light she brought into so many lives—through laughter, creativity, kindness, and connection.
May her memory bring peace to those who knew her and may the love she shared continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
