Rev. Selma's obituary
Born on December 4, 1927 in Lake Charles, LA, Selma was the matriarch of her family - mother of six children, 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and many others whom she loved as her own; children and grandchildren who became family after God brought them into one another's lives. She made countless sacrifices as a parent - a human being in need of a Savior - and always did the best she knew to do. She admitted to making mistakes and missteps along the way, but always trusted that God would work all things together for the good.
When she had the chance, Selma enjoyed life's simple joys. She loved tending to her rose filled garden, singing and decorating. She also loved sharing a good meal with others, whether it was lunch out at one of her favorite restaurants, or a delectable gourmet meal she'd cooked herself for family, friends or newly made acquaintances. She was a consummate host, who loved entertaining at home or volunteering at her grandchildren's school. Selma also had a flair for fashion and was known for her glamorous sense of style. She always knew how to put an outfit together. A great handbag and a pair of “bad” shoes were a must - and when it came to jewelry “more was more.” Even with her inimitable style, Selma's signature accessory was always her smile that reflected a glow from within.
Above all else though, it was Selma's faith and obedience to God that defined her. When she heard the call she said, “Yes Lord, here am I send me.” Even when those around her struggled, Selma knew that God was ordering her steps and she always forged ahead armed with faith. She never ceased to call upon the name of Jesus. Selma also believed in giving back to model the gospel for others. Selma's greatest mandate was the Ministry of Prayer and Intercession. She was a General in the army of the Lord; honored to report for duty. Nothing in life gave her heart greater joy than spending time in the presence of God in sweet communion.
Selma always had a heart for those less fortunate and she served sacrificially with excellence in countless ministries including: Prayer, Teaching, Preaching, Music, Evangelism and Feeding the Homeless. She had the privilege of traveling to Africa with a team led by Apostle William T. Broadous of Calvary Baptist Church of Pacoima, serving on the San Francisco Evangelism street ministry (SOS Ministries) and working with Jews for Jesus. She served the Lord with gladness and it was evident to anyone and everyone in her presence. If you saw her during service, she worshiped as though she were the only one in the room. Her legacy of service, compassion and reconciliation continues through her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the lives of those she impacted by God's grace.
Selma spent her last days loving on those around her, singing her favorite songs and lighting up the room with her presence until her final breath. She was surrounded by an immeasurable amount of love bestowed upon her by friends and family alike, a testament to the goodness of God and the righteous life that she lived to the fullest. Selma trusted the Lord with all her heart and the final strides in her journey home were peaceful, beautiful and immersed with love - a glorious reminder of the redeeming power of our Lord and Savior.
