Scott's obituary

A skilled mechanic and thrill seeker, Scott’s passion for fast and powerful vehicles brought him great joy; he loved driving full speed in cars, speed boats, and motorcycles. Scott Thomas Smith, age 70, of San Antonio, Texas died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 22, 2026.

Scott Thomas Smith was born in Victoria, Texas in 1955 to Odie (O.T.) Thomas Smith and Madeline Hauschild Smith. Growing up wild and fun amongst his beloved brothers and cousins, Scott built a dynamic career as a skilled mechanic and driver which took him all over the country driving 18-wheelers, to Mexico working with a motorcycle racing team, to San Antonio where he owned and operated his own car repair shop, and finally to working on vintage luxury and sports cars in San Antonio.

Scott Smith was preceded in death by his parents, O.T. and Madeline Smith, brother Robert (Bobby) Smith, and his partner Eileen Combs. He is survived by his brother Larry Smith, his daughters Tracey Smith and Lindsey Smith Webb, his son Samuel Thomas Smith, his grandsons Brandon Davila, Dawson Kral, Robert Webb, and Julian Webb, his niece Jenny DeHay Clark, and ex-wife Stephanie Smith. Scott valued his family, always worked hard at his jobs, cooked great steaks, and loved to joke, play, and watch M.A.S.H. and car races on TV. Scott also had a soft spot for family dogs and his grand-dogs. He will always be remembered.

After Scott faced medical challenges in 2016, his brother Larry Smith cared for him at home for the next ten years—an enduring act of family commitment. We will miss Scott’s laugh, humor, piercing “true blue” eyes, and strong hugs. We are grateful he is at peace and not in pain. He’s riding fast, catching air at top speed in heaven and laughing with his brother Bobby.

A Celebration of Life for Scott Smith will be held in March; details to come.
