Scott's obituary

Scott Gregory Allen Ritterling, of Brownsville, MN died unexpectedly on June 6, 2023. He was only 58 years old. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death. Scott was born on April 28, 1965 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Mary and David Allen.  His birth father died when Scott was only 2.  Mary remarried Verland Ritterling who adopted Scott and lovingly raised him as his own.  Verland and Mary moved the family to Iowa where they ran an implement business later moving the family to Plymouth, Wisconsin.  After High School, Scott joined the Army from 1985 to 1988 serving some time overseas in Germany.   After separating from the Army, Scott relocated to La Crosse while studying at UWL.  He worked at the Coulee Youth Center for 11 years (in the group home) where he eventually met his wife, Melanie.  They moved to Brownsville, MN in 1999 to the home where he and his wife Melanie raised their three children.  Scott was a small business owner -- he owned and operated Moore Pet Supplies and Security Boss Manufacturing in La Crosse, WI for over 27 years. The businesses were Scott's pride, joy, and life's work. He poured his heart and soul into the business which showed to all customers and employees.

Scott spent much of his free time talking on the phone with friends and family, spending time with his children and the family dogs at their cabin in Ely, MN and enjoying the great outdoors.  He was also very passionate in his beliefs.  Anyone  who knew Scott knew how passionate he was. Scott was full of compassion and care for others, including animals, traits that were obvious to all after even just a single meeting with Scott.

Scott is survived by his Wife, Melanie and their three children, Carver (age 22), Jessup (age 19) and Elise (age 16), all of Brownsville.   His parents, Verland and Mary Ritterling of Plymouth, WI, brothers Dave (and his wife Soojin, South Korea), Jeff (Georgia), Mark (and his wife Silvia, California), Mike (and his wife Rachel, Wisconsin)  He was also loved like family and survived by a number of the Virginia (James) Moore family including his mother-in-law, several brothers- and sisters-in law and a plethora of nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Also many Aunts and Uncles and cousins and a small circle of very close friends. We will miss him more than words can say.

Scott was preceded in death by his birth father, David Allen, his father-in-law, James Moore and two brothers-in-law, Paul and Keith Moore.

There will be a viewing at the New Albin, Iowa Community Center on Monday, June 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. and again on Tuesday, June 13 from 10 to 10:45 a.m.  Funeral services to follow at St. Joseph's church in New Albin at 11 a.m. with burial at the St. Joseph's cemetery.  Lunch will be served in the St. Joseph's church basement following the services.
