Scott's obituary

Scott Richard Raudy, age 54, of Bend, Oregon, passed away surrounded by family and friends on November 6, 2023, at St. Charles Hospital in Bend, Oregon, after an extended battle with health issues. Scott was born on August 6, 1969, to Richard Raudy and Beverly Raudy in Tigard, Oregon. After Scott graduated from Tigard High School in 1988, he joined the United States Marine Corps. Scott left for Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, on November 14, 1988. Upon completing basic training, Scott was assigned and trained with the C Company 3rd Assault Amphibious Battalion at Camp Pendleton, California. During the first part of Scott’s tour, he was sent to Okinawa, Japan, to train and provide a force in readiness. Shortly after Scott’s return to Camp Pendleton, he was called to duty due to the Iraqi forces invading Kuwait. On August 10, 1990, Scott departed for the Persian Gulf War. He was assigned to Task Force Papa Bear to provide a defensive barrier to Saudi Arabia. During the ground assault, Scott guided his vehicle through burning oil fields, minefields, and enemy engagements. After securing the Kuwait International Airport, Scott’s unit left the combat theater on April 6, 1991. In January 1992, Scott was dispatched with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Tuscaloosa LST-1187, returning in July 1992. Scott was Honorably discharged from the Marine Corps on November 13, 1992. During Scott’s service, he was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation Award, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), Navy Unit Commendation Award, National Defense Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze stars, Combat Action Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one star and the Good Conduct Medal.

Upon leaving the Marine Corps, Scott moved to Bend, Oregon, and began working as a commercial painter and tradesman for T & J Painting. Tackling projects from small to large, he honed his skills as a craftsman. He was respected among his peers for his work ethic and drive. Scott broke away from his career in painting and dove headfirst into a career in telecommunications. Scott fought to overcome his fear of heights. He spent several years building and supervising the construction of hundreds of cell phone and communication towers nationwide. His efforts contributed to the establishment of this nation's communications backbone. Scott further honed his leadership skills in a management role. He loved to tell stories of the buildings he had been on top of—including the Space Needle. Concluding his career in telecommunications, Scott returned to his roots as a commercial painter.

Scott worked for Tom Oller Painting. During this time, Scott’s determination, skill, and leadership earned him a role as a supervisor for many projects. Scott always ensured quality in his work and from his crew. In 2016, Scott started his own business, Bachelor Painting. Contracting with Tom Oller Painting, Scott painted many iconic buildings around Bend, inside and out, including the Oregon State University-Cascades dorms and dining hall, the Sky Lakes Hospital in Klamath Falls, the Eddy Apartment Buildings, and many, many others around Oregon. Scott painted and managed projects until his health issues prevented him from working.

Scott was a man built of love. If you met Scott, his love and kindness would leave an impression on you. Scott would give you the shirt off his back to help you and often did. His defining qualities were his cheerful demeanor, contagious laughter, and desire to see the positive side of life. Scott was a big advocate of hugging; ‘forgiveness’ was his mantra. Friends and family were Scott’s life; he would fiercely love you as well as defend you. Scott enjoyed golf, over-landing, riding motorcycles, music, friends, animals (especially dogs), and life. All felt Scott’s kindness and love impacted those fortunate enough to know him.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Richard “Dick" Raudy, who died in 1997, and his brother Mark Raudy who died in 1965.

Scott is survived by his mother, Bev Raudy; brother, Todd Raudy, and his wife, Kristi Laughlin Raudy; sister, Kris Raudy; and many nieces and nephews that include Sam Raudy, Noah Laughlin-Hall, Khloe Laughlin-Hall, Brent Raudy, Nic, Taylor and Shane Miles—also, his long-time girlfriend of many years, July Ronnie, and her daughter Jenavieve Lustyik.

Scott is also survived by his Marine Corps brothers in arms, Matt Savage, Craig Barber, Greg Ketner, John Sable, Ronald Ruphuy, Davis Howe, Dan Avery, Robert Holder, and Russel Branche.

A small, private celebration is scheduled for the 9th of December of 2023, from 3-7 p.m. Scott’s ashes will be scattered later in a private ceremony.
