Background

The evening of December 26, 2025, our loved one, Scott (Scotty Bear) left us and this world. He was big in presence and in life. He was complicated and passionate in all things. Intelligent, witty, sarcastic, edgy, opinionated, sharp, bold, two-fingers-neat....a list could go on and on for adjectives to explain who Scott was.

Yet, the facets and the depth to Scott are somehow unexplainable to someone who didn't get the chance to know him. Scott's deepest feelings were often masked with humor and/or anger. The boundaries Scott set between him and some others didn't lessen those people's love for him, concern/worry for him, or the compassion for him (and honestly, also anger, on occasion). Often, there are more profound fears, sadnesses, and vulnerabilities that sit deep down in those who feel lonely, those who feel misunderstood, those who feel rebuffed or dismissed. Scott had been a bit withdrawn lately, on a personal journey that many, if not most of us could not understand nor join him on. Like a sentiment in the movie, 'What Dreams May Come': sometimes, we realize we are, in fact, part of the sad person's problems because we can't or won't join them in their sadness.

Regardless of who he was, who he became, the boundaries he set, the circumstances of family estrangement, and the circumstances of the incident, he was loved. He was deeply loved.

If you can donate, it is a great help and deeply appreciated.

A song by Ben Fuller captures the sentiment poetically and perfectly:

Black Sheep
Lyrics

You broke through a thousand fences
Been rescued from a thousand ditches
You still swear you don't fit in
So you kick and scream and you're gone again
Wandering off into the devil's wind
But how's it going out there?
Acting like you ain't scared
How's that heart of stone?
Ain't so hard when you're alone
Crying tears you hope nobody sees
Guess the good news is He'll never leave you be
Jesus loves you black sheep

You hate everything about you
You think we're better off without you
You wear your pain out on your sleeve
And you paint it on in rebel ink
But the alcohol and pills ain't fixed a thing
So, how's it going out there?
Acting like you ain't scared
And how's that heart of stone?
It ain't so hard when you're alone
Crying tears you hope nobody sees
Guess the good news is He'll never leave you be
Jesus loves you black sheep
Jesus loves you black sheep

Can't tell you when, I ain't no prophet
But there'll come a point in time when you can't stop it
The Good Shepherd's love smells like smoke
There ain't no hell so low
Where He won't let the hounds of Heaven go
Seek 'em, let the hounds of Heaven go
So how's it going out there?
Acting like you ain't scared
How's that heart of stone?
Ain't so hard when you're alone
Crying tears you hope nobody sees
Guess the good news is He'll never leave you be
And amazing grace is a pesky, pesky thing
But the good news is He'll never leave you be
Jesus loves you black sheep
Jesus loves you black sheep
