Scooby's obituary

Scooby Doo GriffinAugust 2, 2008 – February 3, 2025

It is with profound heartbreak and eternal love that we announce the passing of our beloved Scooby Doo Griffin, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on February 3, 2025. Scooby, a remarkable 16.5-year-old dachshund, was more than just a dog—he was a world traveler, a dedicated emotional support and service animal, and most importantly, the loyal companion and son of Nancy Griffin. He lived a life full of adventure, joy, and unconditional love, leaving behind a legacy that touched the hearts of many.

Scooby’s journey began on August 2, 2008, in the Chicago western suburbs, where he spent most of his life before his Mom ensured he could enjoy the warmth of Dallas, Houston, and ultimately Las Vegas, away from the harsh cold that didn’t agree with his joints.

From his very first flight to San Francisco in 2014, Scooby developed a passion for travel. In 2024 alone, he took over 50 flights, always preferring a seat on his Mom’s lap by the window. Whether soaring through the skies, riding in a hot air balloon, or cruising the ocean waves, Scooby embraced every experience with excitement. His travels took him internationally on flights as long as eight hours, on cruises, planes, trains, tuk-tuks, motorcycles, scooters, helicopters, and even kayaks.

Scooby was a certified service animal for hearing, a role that brought humor in his later years as his own hearing began to fade. He worked in hospitals such as University of Chicago and Elmhurst-Edward, bringing comfort to those in need. As the official mascot and support animal of GLC Wellness Center and Krave Contour, Scooby made a lasting impact on many lives. His warm presence was a beacon of love, joy, and healing to all who met him.

A lover of sunbathing, eating, swimming, playing fetch, and taking walks (or rather, being carried on them), Scooby had a zest for life that never wavered. He enjoyed making TikToks with his Mom, riding in the car with the top down, taking showers, and exploring new hotels. A true entertainer, he mastered tricks like ringing a bell, rolling over, and playing hide-and-seek—all for treats, of course! His favorite food was mac & cheese, a comfort he never turned down.

Scooby’s final days were spent as they always were—by his Mom’s side, sharing love and companionship. On February 3, while running errands together, he experienced a sudden seizure. Despite his Mom's efforts, including mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and a rush to the hospital, Scooby passed away in her arms. He was pronounced at 3:30 PM PST at West Russell Animal Hospital in Las Vegas, just steps across the street from his home. Though his departure was unexpected, he left this world wrapped in love, knowing he was cherished beyond measure.

Scooby leaves behind his devoted Mom, Nancy Griffin, his beloved sister Jennifer Griffin, his future brother-in-law Alex Lucero, and his cherished fur and human family, including Grandpa Griffin, Aunt Kat and Uncle Tim, TeeTee Tiffany, TeeTee DiVina, TeeTee Elaine, Thailand TeeTee Pepsi, TeeTee Naji Rashid, Uncle Larry King, and his beloved swim instructor Lyndsy and the K9 Aquatics family. He also leaves behind his favorite TSA agent, Officer Sandy at the Harry Reid International Airport, his veterinary teams at Darien Animal Clinic, Pebble Maryland Animal Hospital and Eyecare for Animals, and a vast network of friends from Team XPlosion, RE Mentor, The Gramercy, and beyond.

Scooby has now reunited with his sister Coco Brown (Doberman), cousins Drex and Nyx Griffin (Bull Terriers), ChooChoo Lewis (Pekingese & Poodle), and his human Granny in a place of peace and endless sunshine. His spirit will live on through his new younger brother, Charlie Brown Griffin.
