Scarlett's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beautiful soul, Scarlett Richards Bartlett. Born on August 11, 2014, not yet 10 years old, Scarlett left us too soon in a tragic car accident on July 4, 2024. Along with Scarlett, her loving Mother and newborn Sister perished in the car crash.

Scarlett had a rocky start in her life.  Diagnosed in utero with CDH, she was given a slim chance at surviving.  She pulled through the surgery to repair her diaphragm and lived her life without physical limitations.

Scarlett had an enduring passion for life which shone through in her varied tastes and interests. From her love of anything chocolate, fresh fruit, chocolate chip mint ice cream and macaroni and cheese, she truly knew the joy of simple pleasures. Always ready for a Starbucks decaf mocha latte, she loved getting coffee with Momma.

Scarlett's favorite books revolved around the lives of wolves, a testament to her fascination with the wild. From wolf jewelry to masks and tails she loved everything wolf. She considered herself a Therian and part wolf.  Her favorite movie, Caroline, perfectly depicted her fondness for the beautiful and strange. Scarlett was a talented artist and loved to make paper dragon puppets and paint.  The vibrancy and abstract forms of Picasso's artwork captivated young Scarlett, showcasing her appreciation for unique perspectives.

True to her adventurous spirit, Scarlett loved playing outside, exploring the woods, spending time with neighborhood children, and finding amusement in funny videos. Active and vivacious, she enjoyed quadrobics and bike riding with the family. More than just maintaining a healthy lifestyle, these activities brought her joy and built bonds of love and friendship.

An empathic, joyful, and protective individual, Scarlett had a profound desire to eradicate hate in the world. Her personality was testament to her belief - that everyone deserves to be treated like they are special, regardless of appearance, religion or what they identified as - a lesson she passionately shared.

Scarlett's departure from this world has left a void that will never be filled. We celebrate her life and spirit and honor her memory by pledging to continue her work of nurturing acceptance, love, and joy. Scarlett will live on in precious memories and with all those who had the good fortune to know her.
