Sawyer's obituary
Sawyer Jameson Sherk blasted onto the scene in July 2005 on a humid day in Raleigh, NC, and our world was never the same. His infectious personality, laugh, hilarious facial expressions, beautiful green eyes, and joy of life were mesmerizing to behold. He was goofy, loyal, and lived every day to the extreme. Although a less-than-average life span, Sawyer did not live an average life. He did what he wanted, laughed inappropriately at every chance, learned what he wanted to learn, fixed what he wanted to fix and deeply loved all his friends and family.
Sawyer was freakishly good at ANY sport he played: basketball, flag football, soccer, baseball, track & field, tackle football, and golf. He played basketball and shot awesome 3-pointers for Foothills Montessori and Coral Academy, as well as varsity track & field and football for Coronado High School in Henderson, NV. He was as passionate and dedicated about sports as they come, and his drive to succeed and improve was awe-inspiring. He and his friend Greg could regularly be found gym ratting at Eos Fitness and taking very serious selfies while flexing their ever-expanding muscles in front of the mirrors and weights.
Next to his friends, family, and sports, Sawyer loved everything about cars from driving, to tuning, repairing, maintaining and going to car shows. Recently, his passion was joining his besties Ty, Kenny, Greg, Gavin, and Ryder on drives through the canyons at Lake Mead National Park. He was a strong enthusiast of Japanese and European sports cars from the 1990’s. Lest you think Sawyer was just an average American bro, he was also wickedly good at origami and solving Rubix Cubes at lightening speeds.
He is fondly remembered by his beloved sister, Regan, for all the years of younger brother bullying, insults, bro hugs, and unwanted advice. His ever-indulgent mom, Jennifer, will sorely miss their secret bro/mom handshake, his saying, “What’s up, good looking?” to her every time he came in the room (probably to assuage her midlife aging concerns), the hours catching baseballs in the cul-de-sac, the Texas Hold Em battles at the dining room table, and all the hikes, trips, & sporting events they enthusiastically enjoyed together. Sawyer’s dad, Brian, loved all the car repairs and projects they tackled together (mostly successfully) and the hours and hours they spent watching and rooting for the Minnesota Twins and traveling around the country to see their favorite baseball teams play.
Sawyer came, he saw, he experienced, he influenced, and he left too early. He died on September 25, 2024, doing what he loved most - driving his beloved Volkswagen Golf in the hills near his university in St. George, UT. He can likely be found in heaven forwarding the stupidest memes and reels that can’t help but offend the other departed souls. Please don’t cry because he passed, smile because you had the chance to know him. He was loved immensely and will be forever remembered, our Soy Sauce, Manwich, Bruh, Game Thing, Big Guy, Little Man...
