Saundra's obituary

Saundra Jean Zubko (née Daugherty), age 86, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Born on June 28, 1939, in Steubenville, Ohio. Saundra lived a full and vibrant life marked by devotion to family, community, and faith.

A woman of remarkable independence and warmth, Saundra was the proud owner of JJ Travel, where she combined her love for travel with her entrepreneurial spirit. Her passion for exploring the world was matched only by her joy in helping others do the same. Whether planning trips or sharing stories from her own adventures, she brought energy and enthusiasm to every journey.

Saundra was deeply committed to her community at Bay Colony Club in Fort Lauderdale. She served multiple terms as president and remained an active board member for many years. Her leadership and dedication left a lasting impact on the residents and friends she cherished there. Known for her gracious hospitality and spirited presence, she was a beloved figure whose contributions helped shape the vibrant life of the club.

Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. As a devoted member of St. Coleman Catholic Church in Pompano Beach, Saundra served as a greeter and participated actively in the women’s group. Her spiritual strength and commitment to service were evident in all that she did.

Family was at the heart of everything Saundra valued. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Tony; Dean and his wife Jennifer; and Lisa and her husband David. She took immense pride in her grandchildren—Anthony (and his wife Laila), Zachary (and his fiancée Alyiah), Demi, and Taylar—and found great joy in her great-granddaughters Zoey and Nora.

Saundra also shared a close bond with her siblings: JoAnn, Rodney, Dennis, Ed, Kevin, and Deborah. She carried forward the legacy of their parents, Rodney W. Daugherty and Rose Terzini Daugherty, who preceded her in death.

Her zest for life extended into every corner of her daily routine. She delighted in playing cards with friends, participating in water aerobics classes, baking treats for loved ones, cooking hearty meals from scratch, dancing with joy whenever music played, and hosting gatherings filled with laughter and warmth.

Those who knew Saundra will remember her as loving and caring—a woman who gave generously of herself to those around her. Her proud spirit shone through in all aspects of her life: as a mother and grandmother; as a businesswoman; as a neighbor; as a friend; as a faithful servant of God.

May Saundra’s memory bring comfort to all who knew her, and may her legacy continue to inspire grace, strength, and love in those she leaves behind. A celebration of life "party" is being planned.
