Saundra's obituary

Saundra Drayer-Staight, a woman of remarkable strength, fierce dedication, and profound kindness, passed away on July 29, 2024. Born on March 30, 1952, she leaves behind a legacy characterized by selfless service and a heart always eager to help.

She is survived by her loving daughters Anne Ebert (David Ebert), Betty Slimko, and Katie Stice (John Stice), grandsons Nathan Ebert and Caleb Fine, her caring brother Chuck Drayer, and sisters Bonnie Petri and Laurie Williams. Each of them carry forward her spirit, her wisdom, her dry sense of humor and her deep-seated belief in serving others. She is preceded by her sister Jessie Valdez and loving husband James Staight.

A devoted attendee at La Quinta Christian Fellowship Church, Saundra exemplified the teachings of her faith not only through her words but through her actions. She volunteered at La Quinta Christian Fellowship Church School, always taking pleasure in helping others and serving lunch to the children. In her leisure, she enjoyed making beautiful quilts that will be forever cherished by all those she blessed with them. They are testament to her eye for beauty and love for creation.

Saundra had a fondness for Mexican food and peanut butter sandwiches, she enjoyed simple pleasures such as an ice-cold ginger ale, lemonade, and milk. Her favorite book was The Bible, and she found solace in her Christian music. She had an affinity for crime dramedies like Castle and White Collar.

Saundra's spirit will continue to live on through her daughters and grandchildren who have, guided by her, developed a passion for serving others. She leaves behind a legacy of having served with San Diego Search and Rescue Team, as a San Diego County Sheriff, and as a private care nurse, caring for those that could not care for themselves.  In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for the La Quinta Christian Fellowship Church.  Remembered for her strong, fierce, loving, intelligent, and funny personality, Saundra's life was a testament to the power of having a servant's heart and advocating for others. This was the greatest lesson she shared, a belief that will continue to inspire all those who were privileged to know her.
