Sara Violet's obituary
Sara Violet Carr was added to the family of Silas and Hettie Virginia Keith Carr July 29, 1930. In addition to her parents, she was welcomed by siblings Eliza Jean, John Henry, Nathaniel, Victoria, Julia Cornelia and Bernice. Later, Lucile, Katie and Helen came along.
They grew up in Kelly NC in Bladen County. Though having little materially, the family was rich in love and shared experiences and adventures. The family later moved to the Newton Crossroads area. One by one, the siblings grew up and spread out. Sara lived in NY for years before returning to Harrells NC to care for her father. Her nieces and nephews learned to recognize the orange and white car with the cream interior, as remarkable as its owner. Sara later moved to Wilmington to care for her oldest sister, Jean. Then she lived in Castle Hayne with her sister Connie. Finally, she and her sister Katie shared a home.
After listening to some of her siblings, Sara began a study of the Bible. What she learned led her to dedicate her life to Jehovah God, symbolizing it by water baptism on October 18, 1969.
You will find few pictures of Sara less than a few decades old because she developed an aversion to having her photo taken. But her personality sizzles in the ones from earlier years. Words sometimes came fast and sharp, but there also times of great sweetness and of humor. We look forward to having her smiling and laughing in perfect health in perfect conditions.
Awaiting her return are four sisters – Vicky Rookwood, Bernice Newkirk, Lucile Newkirk and Katie Newkirk; a slew of nieces and nephews and many friends.
