Sanford “Butch” J. Haines Sr. of Reedsport passed away in his home at the age of 78 on Saturday January 9th. Butch was born December 1st, 1942 in Tacoma, Washington to Jennie B. and Myron A. Haines. After proudly serving in the Army, he worked in the timber industry - mainly in Washington and Oregon. The majority of his career he worked as a forklift operator for Bohemia Lumber in Reedsport. Butch is more commonly known as the owner and operator of Hole in the Wall Books (later renamed Reedsport Books) in Old Town Reedsport. Anyone who shopped there immediately saw the pride he took in his little store. Butch was a proud friend of Bill W. and died with 15,604 days of sobriety. He was hard-working, determined, humble, and loving - And he will be dearly missed by us all.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Jenni B. and Myron A. Haines; his brothers, Myron V. and Jerry; and sister, Susan. Survivors include his brother Albert, and sisters Bernice and Pat; his children Sheila, James, Sandy, Jennifer, and Brenda; numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and countless friends who over the years became family.
