Sandy's obituary
Sanford H.J. “Sandy” Barber III, 75, passed away on September 8, 2025, in La Ferté-en-Ouche, Normandie, after battling cancer for two and a half years. Sandy resided in St. Peterburg, Florida and Hayesville, North Carolina, before moving to France. He was born on December 28, 1949, in Lynn, Massachusetts.
Sandy's love for sports began early, playing for the Azalea Bulldogs in Little League and later high school football for the Bogie Pirates, #50, experiences that shaped his lifelong passion for sports. Sandy graduated from Boca Ciega High School in 1968 before proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps for two years. He earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Florida in 1975. A proud Gator, he remained a devoted fan of Gator football (and ALL college football) throughout his life.
In 1984, Sandy founded Barber, Stowe & Company, where he built a respected career as an accomplished accountant. He earned the trust of clients and colleagues alike over decades of dedicated service before retiring.
Sandy shared 46 years of marriage with his best friend Carol, who stood by his side through every triumph and challenge. He was a devoted father to two loving daughters, Andrea (Tyson) and Leah, both of Pinellas Park, a cherished stepdaughter, Darcy, of France, and his dog Snoopy, also of France. Leah's children, his grandchildren, Ilana and Gabe, brought him immense joy and pride. He is also lovingly remembered by extended family and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his sister Allison Snell; his father Sanford Barber Jr.; his mother Betty Barber; and his dogs Puck, Benson and Gracie.
Outside of work and family life, Sandy found joy in many pursuits. He was an avid golfer—both on the course and as a spectator—and loved nothing more than engaging in lively political discussions or planning his next travel adventure with Carol. He was especially proud of his Christmas Eve homemade spaghetti sauce, which he often boasted about.
A Gator Football Watch Party/Celebration of Life will be hosted by Sandy’s family on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Location and time to come.
Sandy’s legacy lives on through those who knew him—as a husband, father, grandfather, Gator fan, professional, and friend. May his memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.
