Sandra's obituary
Sandra Clarke was born on September 22, 1966, to Hugh Clarke and Valda Stewart in Montego Bay, Jamaica. She migrated to the United States at the age of eight and settled in Brooklyn, New York, where she built a life rooted in compassion, curiosity, and resilience.
Sandra attended John Dewey High School and then went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Hunter College in 1988. She briefly lived in London, England before returning to the United States, where she worked for over a decade as a pharmacy technician and medical assistant. In 2005, she became a Patient Care Technician and later earned certification as an NHA phlebotomy and EKG specialist. Never one to be confined to a traditional path, Sandra eventually chose to step away from the standard “9 to 5” to pursue her passion for storytelling, travel, and creativity.
She transitioned into the entertainment and hospitality industries and became a traveling journalist, visiting countries such as Egypt, Brazil, Singapore, and Kenya. Through her published work, she shared stories highlighting culture, food, and community from around the world. Sandra joined SAG-AFTRA in the early 2000s and appeared as an extra in numerous television shows and films, including The Good Wife, The Best Man Holiday, and The Supremes.
Outside of her professional life, Sandra was deeply committed to service. She was a passionate advocate for children in underserved communities and, in 2023, traveled to Ethiopia, where she partnered with the Ethiopian Children’s Fund (ECF).
There, she donated school supplies, taught English in primary schools, and visited orphanages. Her daughter, Kimberly, intends to continue the work and mission Sandra began. After a short battle with liver cancer, Sandra peacefully departed this life on Sunday, December 28, at the age of 59, surrounded by love. Sandra was a devoted mother, daughter, niece, and friend. Her kindness, strength, and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She had a remarkable way of making people feel seen and cared for, and her family was always at the center of her heart. She will be remembered for her generosity, sense of humor, resilience, and unwavering compassion.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Kimberly Clarke-Browne, her son-in-law, Romano Browne, and other cherished family members who will carry her memory forward each day. She was reunited in peace with loved ones who preceded her in death.
Sandra found joy in crocheting, creating brooches, and sharing food or snacks with everyone she encountered—a simple but powerful expression of her love for others.
Sandra will be deeply missed and forever loved.
