Sandra's obituary

Sandra Ann Entz Hubbard was born July l9, 1942 to the family of Jacob and Kathryn Entz of Huron, South Dakota, welcomed by her older brother, Rollo and her sister Sonja, and also her maternal grandmother who lived with them for the first seven years of Sandra’s life. Grandma Tschetter was very much loved and had a very positive impact on the children in the home. Sandra’s home was a loving and Christ-centered home on a farm not far from Huron. It was a conviction of her parents to train their children in the ways of the Lord and to teach them the Scriptures, so that a time of Bible reading and prayer was a firm custom every morning before breakfast, 7 days a week without fail. God’s Word was “knitted into the very fabric of our being.”, a phrase Sandra often repeated. Sandra was always a sweet natured little girl and enjoyed all the activities of farm life. At the age of six she received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a Bible Camp meeting. Fearing she might be told she was too young to be baptized, Sandra took the initiative at the age of 8 years old of personally calling her Pastor on the phone and asking if she could be baptized. He and then her mother and Daddy gladly approved!

Even at a young age Sandra loved driving the tractor for agricultural projects and plowing, and cultivating corn, and became quite a capable help to her Daddy and her big brother. There was always a lot of work to be done on the farm and Sandra was involved in the cleaning, cooking , and helping with preparations for receiving guests which not only included her large extended family, but many missionaries who were invited for meals or for extended visits. Sandra and her sister learned at a young age how to cook, bake and help with quite a bit of hospitality that her family was engaged in

The Entz family were very active and a vital part of their large vibrant country church, and Sandra went to Sunday School since she was born, was an active participant in all activities including choir, youth groups, and daily Vacation Bible School . She attended all 8 years of elementary school and the first year of High School in Yale, South Dakota, a small town near their farm home where she and her sister and brother also attended. After that she attended James Valley Christian High School, and in her final year of High School she attended Wheaton Academy in Illinois, and then she went on to attend Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota. It was then necessary to take a break from College and work, so Sandra went to the Chicago area and lived near her sister, Sonja and her husband working as a receptionist for a team of industrial psychologists for two years. . While there she attended and was active in the same church her sister’s family was involved in. At that time the opportunity to study in Germany for a year. That was quite an adventure for Sandra in every way as she learned German which was the language all her grandparents spoke. Her Mother and Dad were delighted when she came back to the United States speaking German fluently. The next year she attended and graduated from Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas, where she majored in Elementary Education and met and fell in love with Jim Hubbard who was studying High School Music Education. He was the love of her life, and plans were made to be married in South Dakota two years later. They moved to Kansas where Jim began working in mental health as activities director and Sandra was a third grade elementary school teacher. Soon their first child was born, Trenton James.

After living and working in Kansas for two years, Jim and Sandra moved to Louisville, Kentucky where Jim obtained a graduate degree as a Social Worker. .From there they moved to Olathe, Kansas where they resided for 26 years. Derrik Jacob was born there in 1973, and there in Kansas both Trent and Deririk were baptized and dedicated to serve the Lord. Trent moved to Colorado after graduating from Kansas State University, and there he met and married Joy Palacas in Colorado in l993, and have made their home there. They have been blessed with 5 children : Stone James, Blaze Jacob, Ridge Joshua, Sage Marie, and Talon Zane to which five children were born, and now an added blessing of a great grandson, Oaks.

Derrik followed his brother’s footsteps and also attended Kansas State University and there met the love of his life, Katie DeWeese and were married. They have blessed Sandra and Jim with three children: Ethan Micah, Cameron Isaac, and Ashton David. Sandra was a faithful prayer warrior for her children as they grew up, and from the day her first grandchild was born, she assembled a prayer manual which consisted of passages of Scripture selected for each child. That prayer book Sandra assembled is now very worn and falling apart….proof that every day of the year she prayed Scripture over her descendents. As she wrote in a recently printed book, “Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, ‘til I declare your power to the next generation, and your mighty acts to all who are to come. Psalms 71:18

In l997, after 27 years of teaching at Shawnee Mission School District in Kansas, Sandra retired and she and Jim moved to Colorado to be closer to Trent and Joy and their family for a few years. Another move in 2007 brought them to California to be living close to Derrik and Katie and their children. There Sandra and Jim very much enjoyed being a vital part of Grace Baptist Church, and particularly the prayer ministry for Sandra, and for Jim being involved in the church orchestra in Santa Clarita, California. Both Sandra and Jim were always very interested in being a part of their grandchildren’s lives, and often traveled to be with them on special occasions such as Birthdays and Christmas. In April of 2024 they moved across the country to Germantown, Tennessee because Derrik and Katie wanted to have them close in their later years to be of support to them. And so it was that there Sandra suffered an aneurysm of her Aorta as well as Covid, and she passed into the loving arms of her Savior and Lord whom she loved and served so well. Sandra was a woman of deep faith, unwavering prayer, and quiet strength and wisdom. We will greatly miss her.
