Sandra's obituary
Sandra Louise Gonzalez, aged 74, passed away on December 23, 2024, in Eugene, OR. Born on November 2, 1950, to James Riley Jones and Ethel Louise Jones, Sandra was a cherished member of her community and a loving mother and grandmother.
Sandra completed her early education at Klamath Falls High School before earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon, studying romance languages. She spent many years of her professional life contributing to the successes of the Oregon Research Institute and Harry and David, and was a familiar face at the Saturday Market, where she aided anyone in need of directions or assistance.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Sandra was deeply involved in volunteering at the Oregon Country Fair, demonstrating her commitment to community service and her love for local culture.
Her deep interest in language reflected itself in her pastimes, including reading and playing many word games. She also enjoyed spending time with her many friends, sharing advice, comfort, and a pint or two.
Sandra's life was enriched by her family, who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her son, Archie Gonzalez; daughter, Alix Marie Lewis-Welch; daughter-in-law, Rayette C. Gonzalez; and grandchildren, Kaitlin Gonzalez, Carmen Gonzalez, Teya Cuellar-Welch, Thomas Lewis, and Joseph Lewis. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ethel Jones; her husband, Thomas Welch; and her ex-husband, Dwight Bastian.
Sandra's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love for her community will live on through the many lives she touched. Her family and friends will carry forward her spirit of generosity and community involvement.
