Sandy's obituary

Sandy was born November 26, 1941, to Bert and  Florence Hicks in Providence, Rhode Island.

Sandy fell in love with the beach when her father Bert was transferred to California for 4 years while serving in the Navy.  Sandy's wish is for the family to take a trip to spread her ashes on the beach. After WWII her family moved to Lawrence, KS, where she graduated high school.  Sandy enjoyed 4H activities while in school and became skilled  in sewing and baking.  After high school Sandy worked at the local Duckworth store where she met  her husband Gary.

They were married on May 29, 1960.  The newly married couple moved to McPherson, KS, so Gary could pursue his education. McPherson was where Gary and Sandy started their family with sons Mark in 1961 and Scott in 1964.

In 1966 the family moved to Topeka KS for a year then moved to Jefferson City, Missouri.  Sandy  worked for the State Economic Development office and Missouri Senator Phil Snowden until 1983. After leaving Jefferson City, the family moved  Blue Springs, MO where Sandy was a Business Retention Specialist  working for Jackson County Economic Development.  After Sandy and Gary retired from government jobs, they purchased and operated a Servpro Franchise and Furniture Medic franchise.  Sandy was Scott's Office Manager for Stewart Remodeling & Construction Inc. after Sandy & Gary sold  the franchises. Sandy finally retired for the 2nd time in 2018.

Sandy had a love for cats though her entire life. She showed and bred cats from 1984 to 2006 with many regional wins and the pinnacle being her National Grand Champion, Bobby McGee. She was active in the Cat Fanciers Club and became a judge at cat shows.

Sandy’s favorite vacation was with Gary, Mark, Scott, and grandkids, Matt, Eric, Sarah, and Jacob to Marathon in the Florida Keys in December 2009.
