Samuel's obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Samuel "Sam" Williams, who departed this life on October 16, 2017. Samuel was born on July 4, 1931, and lived a life filled with joy, passion, and hard work. Though he preferred being called Samuel, he was affectionately known to many as Sam.
Sam's journey in life was exceptional and inspiring. Born and brought up in Newberry, South Carolina, he decided to venture beyond his comfort zone and relocate to find gainful employment. The courage, determination, and perseverance he showed during this time was indicative of his strong work ethic and defined his approach to life.
Sam was truly the life of the party. His charismatic personality coupled with his infectious laughter could easily lighten the mood of any room. However, what stood out most about Sam was his love for his family. His wife, Carrie "Polly" Williams, who followed him in death, less than two years later, was the love of his life and his biggest supporter.
One of Sam's most valuable lessons was his belief in learning from others' mistakes. He embraced the philosophy of 'watch, listen, and learn', and it was this perspective that guided him through his so-called 'school of hard knocks'. Despite life's challenges, Sam managed to carve a meaningful and successful path in this world.
Sam's greatest achievements, however, were not of a material nature. His pride and joy were his two extraordinary daughters, whom he considered his biggest accomplishments. They are a testament to Sam's values and are a living legacy of his love, wisdom, and strength.
In the chorus of mourning, we celebrate the life of a loving father, companion, and friend. May his journey bring him peace, and may his life continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by daughters Karen Francis of Philadelphia, Pa, Sherri Randall (Juan) of Arlington,Tx , brothers Richard Williams(Lillie) of Greenville, SC, Ralph Williams of Columbia SC, sister Pauline W Moore of Philadelphia, PA, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins . His final resting place is at West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, Pa
