Bros ,

This is the first year without you, your words of wisdom and jokes....I still miss you so much especially your exemplary leadership and compassion.... bros continue to rest in peace in Jesus mighty name....

Semo Ukponmwan

Thank God for your life, Uncle Sam. Thank God for all the pleasant memories of you. You were such a kind hearted uncle and will be fondly remembered. My in-laws fondly remember you as the Ambassador from Kuwait, as you played such a memorable role at our wedding. We cherish all the wonderful memories - from your smiles, jokes and easy going ways, your taking us out to that lovely restaurant at the west end in London, to the pride we felt in having our uncle as the accomplished professional and anaesthetist you were! You will be greatly missed! May God comfort and strengthen Aunty Mary and all your wonderful children, your older siblings, younger siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, friends… us all. May your memory remain forever blessed.

Kole and Noma Sodipo

Uncle Sam, it was always a pleasure to have you around. I will always remember your joyful countenance and receptive smile.

I am so glad that I was able to speak with you a few days before your passing. I knew you would have wanted to stay on, but I guess God knows best. This world is indeed not our own, and you had reached the end of your journey, and you made a great impact on all those you left behind.

I still remember the Lebanese restaurant you took us to several years ago, where we had so much fun teasing each other.

I also still have the lovely surprise gift you bought for me on your stop over from Kuwait several years ago. It will always be a reminder of your kindness and thoughtfulness.

Rest in peace dear uncle. You ran a great race!

May God grant Prof Sam Ukponmwan's soul eternal rest. You were a great teacher and my mentor. You inspired all of us who were fortunate to pass through UBTH when you were the head of the department and opened many doors for us.

Your contributions to the Society of Anaesthetists of West Africa, Faculty of Anaesthesia, West African College of Surgeons and the National Postgraduate Medical college will continue to be remembered by your trainees long after you have departed to rest in the bosom of the Lord.

Sorry Uncle Sam, the last time we met was at the burial ceremony of my father when you represented the Bishop.

May God grant your family the fortitude to bear your irreplaceable loss.

Adieu, my great lecturer and very talented anaesthetist.

My beloved brother was always jovial and humble ....telling jokes about everything...I was discussing with him in 2020 about smuggling him into the US for the family reunion to surprise family members....he said I have to work with the FBI to do that and we laughed at length.....He drove all the way to calabar for my wedding and that was the last time we saw ...for that visit am eternally grateful to the Almighty...He will be missed ,his words of wisdom and insight to life will endure forever....He was a kind and loving brother to me and his memory will also endure thru my lifetime.

Asemota Ukponmwan & Family

Uncle Samuel, this is a big blow to swallow. But I must accept that you have fought the good fight and finished your race. You were just such an easy going person in spite of your breath taking accomplishments. You made relating to you so simple and so effortless - almost as if we were peers.

In 1986/1987, my cousin Yuwa, and I had the privilege of staying in your Uniben senior staff quarters boys' quarters. You and aunty Mary shared your everything with us.

No doubt, in my heart, and in the hearts of many, you remain a most amazing and interesting man!

Uncle, rest in the perfect, perpetual peace of Christ!

Your one and only ring bearer,

Idemudia Guobadia

Brother Osuyi , a great coordinator par excellence of the Ukponmwan family, you will be greatly missed . Your jokes and jovial remarks especially at family gatherings where you always made your presence remarkable will also be missed. Rest In Peace my dear eldest brother.  From Adesuwa Anwuri
My dearest Uncle Sam it still seems like a dream. I can’t believe you are actually gone. I remember the numerous times you came to Igbosere and always had a smile and always jovial. You were always willing to help and go the extra mile for everyone  . Always there for my mom when she needed you to help with one thing or another. God knows best and May he give each and everyone of us the fortitude to bear your loss. Uncle rest in perfect peace until we meet again. To God be the Glory!
I'm so sorry for the loss of Prof  Ukpomwan Samuel. I'll always think of him whenever I remember the Nigerian Society of Anaesthetists (NSA) conference in Kaduna. Adieu, Prof Sam Ukpomwan, rest in peace in the bosom of the Lord. I was NSA Treasurer under him. A kind man, a man of peace. You will be sorely missed 😢

I was shocked to hear of my elder cousin’s passing.
