Sam's obituary

Samuel Doctorian Ringo, born February 24,1962, passed away in Katy Texas on January 8, 2023 at the age of 60. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones, both family and friends alike.

Sam graduated from Austin Senior High in Houston Texas. He earned his LVN and worked at Memorial Hermann Hospital, as well as Eastwood Health Clinic. He was first introduced to music as a young boy in the Church of Redeemer choir. He continued this love for praise and worship in multiple churches throughout his adult life. In his house church, Sam was a giver- cooking wonderful dishes for the potluck suppers. He was also passionate about Houston history and architecture, which led to many hours giving tours to loved ones, sharing all he knew. He dedicated his life to helping others. When his nephew, Michael, was in a traumatic car accident that left him paralyzed and incapacitated, Sam resigned from his nursing position at the hospital and he and his mother took in Michael, caring for him until his death several years later. Following Michael’s death, Sam turned his focus to his elderly mother, Essie, and served her until she went to be with the Lord. He was the epitome of a loving uncle and Godfather. He often, gifted money inside of birthday-cards when he really had none to give, just like the Bible story of the widow giving her last mite. Sam would often surprise someone with a gift when he learned of something they wanted or needed, even something as simple as some produce he had found on sale. In the midst of his own financial lack, he continued to give and give and give again. All his nieces and nephews had a special place in his heart, especially his great-nephew Donavon McDonald. Sam was a strong prayer warrior with an unshakable faith in Christ, forever striving to follow his example.

Sam was born to Basil N. and Essie Ringo in Houston Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, sisters Carol Byrd and Mary Barker, brothers Basil D. Ringo and Randy Greene, nieces Leslie Ringo and Dawn Greene, and nephew Michael Ringo.

Sam is survived by his loving sisters: Gaye Bautista (Art), Donna Joy and Lynn Gerdes (Randy), brothers: John Ringo (Melody), Tommy Clement, and David Avalos, brother in law: Brian Barker, nephews: Curt Byrd (Denise), Jason Barker, Will McDonald, Keith Barker (Laura), and Randy S. Greene (Stacie), nieces: Kat, Amber Hux (Kenneth), and April Dardis (Kurt), along with numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Church of the Redeemer, Episcopal: 5700 Lawndale, Houston, Texas 77023; starting at 2pm with a reception to follow. For questions about location, the church can be reached at (713) 928-3221.
