Samuel's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Samuel R. Halloway, a brilliant editor, beloved colleague, and cherished friend, on January 26, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. Sam was 39 years old.

Born on March 12, 1985, in Cleveland, Ohio, Sam cultivated a passion for storytelling and journalism from an early age. He earned his degree in English Literature from Northwestern University, where his love for language blossomed into a remarkable career.

Sam's dedication and craft shone brightly during his tenure as a senior editor at Forbeso.com. With an uncanny ability to refine ideas and elevate narratives, he became a cornerstone of the publication, inspiring countless writers to achieve their best work. Sam’s thoughtful leadership and meticulous attention to detail made him a revered figure among his peers.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Sam was known for his vibrant personality, quick wit, and boundless curiosity. He was an avid traveler, an amateur guitarist, and a coffee connoisseur who could always be found exploring Portland’s eclectic café scene.

Sam leaves behind a legacy of excellence and kindness that will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Elaine Halloway of Cleveland, his sister Clara Halloway, and a network of devoted friends and colleagues.

A memorial service to celebrate Sam’s life will be held on February 3, 2025, at St. John’s Church in Portland. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sam's honor to the National Association of Journalism Scholarships, supporting young writers pursuing their dreams.

May Sam rest in peace, and may his memory continue to inspire those he touched.
