Just learned of this today. I knew Mr. Engel during my formative years when I joined Cub Scouts at age 8. I was in his Boy Scout troop 204 in Burbank until I joined the Navy at age 17. His dedication to Scouting and other community services are an example that not many will accomplish. He was a leader. I won't forget him. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed.
Sam and Millie crossed my mind today and I discovered that both have passed on to Heaven. They were among the first to volunteer at the Burbank Library Adult Literacy Program as I was launching it. They blessed several students with their integrity, joy of life, kindness, and intelligence. One time when Sam was ill, I spent the better part of a day creating a hearty soup that I took to their home, planning to just drop it off, but Millie invited me in and we chatted a while. They had a way of making everyone feel like family. I miss them but am forever grateful for their example.
