Samantha's obituary
Samantha BJ Markert, 75, died peacefully November 2, 2022, at her home in Sonora, CA, after a long illness and under the loving care of her friends Sharlyn Anderson and Amanda Serene. The daughter of Clement Markert and Margaret Rempfer Markert, Sam was born May 10, 1947, in Baltimore, MD.
Sam graduated from the University of Oregon in Eugene and worked as an independent real estate agent and for various city and state government agencies including Contra Costa County. She worked for many years as a real property agent for the City of Fremont, where she had a reputation for scrupulous honesty and meticulous work habits. She realized her dream of living in the mountains when she retired to Soulsbyville, CA, in the foothills of the Sierra.
Sam enjoyed visiting relatives and spending time at the family retreat in the mountains of southern Colorado. She enjoyed bird watching and spending time in nature and was a dedicated supporter of environmental causes. She had many beloved canine companions during her lifetime and volunteered to train a dog for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Samantha is survived by her brother Alan Markert and wife Valerie Huebner of Maine and by her brother Robert Markert and wife Pattie Pape of California. Services will be private.
