Sal DeRise lived in Westbury, NY at the time of his passing. Sal was born on October 19, 1933 in Brooklyn and passed away on September 1, 2023 at St. Francis Hospital and Heart Center in Roslyn, NY.
He was a US Army veteran of the 11th Airborne Division, member of the American Legion for veterans, airline projectionist, talented film actor, skilled golfer, master at Mexican train dominoes, energetic dancer, a big fan of horse racing and a persistent problem solver when it came to issues with technology.
Sal was an inspiring man who lived a long and incredible life. He was a true humble badass who demonstrated this most when he jumped out of planes as a paratrooper, always afraid of heights and blind in one eye.
All in all, Sal's wealth of cool stories, wisdom, jokes, kindness and all around joyful personality will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

Loyal and loving husband of 50 years to the late Bridget Marie DeRise.
Loving partner of Mary Jane Piscitelli with whom he danced the night away with for 15 years.
Beloved father of Joanne Rosina, William DeRise, Roseanne DeRise, Salvatore DeRise Jr., Christa Dusharme, Dean K. Dusharme, Christine Piscitelli and James Piscitelli.
Proud grandfather of Joseph, Krista, Anthony (Lauren), Diana (Lawrence), Dean, Cheralyn, Jake and Kate.
Caring great grandfather of Lawrence Jr., Hannah, Olivia and Josiah.
Cherished brother of Alexander Jr., Carl (Florence), Raymond (Josephine), Frederick (MaryAnne) Richard (Alicia), Arthur (Heleana), and Caroline (Joseph).
Cool uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Sal DeRise was born to Alexander and Anna DeRise on October 19th, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY.
After graduating from James Madison High School in 1951, he entered the service as a paratrooper for the 11th Airborne Division and served from 1953-55 For this he was inducted in the Walls of Honor at Eisenhower Park in 2003.
When his wife Bridget passed away in 2007, Sal moved to the Knolls retirement community in Westbury where he met Mary Jane Piscitelli. He spent a lot of time with Mary Jane’s closest relatives, the Piscitelli and Dusharme families, and over the course of 15 years they all grew to love Sal as a new family member. Sal accepted them back.
In 2019 Sal began his movie career by doing voiceover work for his grandson Dean, which led to his legendary performance as “Sinister Sal” alongside Mary Jane in the “Grandma Wick” series.
Sal was very much present in his family’s lives, especially in the way he supported the burgeoning interests and careers of his grandchildren.
He never lost what made him such an awesome person and remained very active all the way up until his passing on September 1st, 2023. His life concluded where it began, having lived as a young boy at St. Francis Hospital and Heart Center in Roslyn, NY, and passing away there some eighty years later. Sal will be remembered as a humorous, inspirational and loving man who liked his scotch on the rocks.
