Sally's obituary

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Sally McGinnis, who went to be with Jesus on June 16th, 2024. Born on September 28th, 1950, Sally lived a full and vibrant life dedicated to the service of others and the journey of faith. She will always be remembered as "The extremely friendly lady on the front porch."

Sally carried with her a spirit of warmth and friendship, touching the lives of everyone she met. Her smile was a gift for those in need of cheer; her laughter, the perfect remedy for a difficult day. Her personality held a quality that drew people in and made them feel instantly comfortable. She never met a stranger! Sally was also feisty and stubborn - if she set her mind to something, it was as good as done. Even as she got older, she was determined not to miss out on life. Yes was her answer to any suggestion, whether it be camping, road-tripping, or watching a movie. Sally loved helping out her dear friends at an antique store. She was part of a postcard club and adored vintage postcards. When at home she loved working on puzzles while watching sports.

Sally was also an avid dog-lover. She had a special place in her heart for cocker spaniels. Her dogs throughout her life were her companions and family, and she loved them with a passion that was evident to all who knew her. According to Sally, Gus McGinnis was her best dog yet. After losing Tucker, Sally was hesitant to love again... but Gus came into her life at the exact right time and was her perfect companion. He has a wonderful new family now and carries Sally's love with him.

Football season was Sally's favorite. She watched every Chiefs game with a special group of friends. She may have enjoyed the food as much as she did the games. Especially if she could partake in an ice cold Coca-Cola (or margarita)!

Anyone who knew Sally knows that she told the best stories about her life. From softball, to faith, to being a psych nurse, to playing basketball at KU, her stories never ceased to entertain!

A devoted member at City Life Church, Sally found joy in her faith. It grounded her, guided her, and gave her a sense of purpose. She loved waking early on Sunday mornings to go cook in the church kitchen. Serving meals to the homeless community brought her so much joy (as did the biscuits and gravy!).

It was from her beloved front porch that she and Gus greeted the world with a friendly wave and tail wags, making the day a little brighter for everyone who passed by. Perhaps those that loved Sally can continue her legacy by smiling and waving at the world around us.

In honor of Sally's spirit of kindness and love of dogs, donations to City Life Church or your local animal shelter would be greatly appreciated.
