Sabra's obituary
Sabra Evelyn Pierce Young passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14th, 2025, at her home in Las
Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by her loving spouse, children, and grandchildren. She was 74 years old.
Born on February 20, 1951, in El Paso, Texas, Sabra lived a vibrant and full life across the United
States, residing in many places including Mesa, Prescott, and Tucson, Arizona; Costa Mesa,
California; Americus, Georgia; Excelsior Springs and Independence, Missouri; Las Vegas, Nevada;
Bluewater, Fort Wingate, and Tohatchi, New Mexico; Bountiful, Centerville, Logan, Salt Lake City, and
Taylorsville, Utah; and Oak Harbor, Washington. Each location added a chapter to her adventurous
and meaningful journey.
Sabra was an active and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she
held numerous leadership and teaching roles throughout her life, including Primary President, Relief
Society President, Stake Cultural Arts Specialist, Stake Missionary, Sunday School Chorister, Young
Women President, and more. Her faith and dedication to serving others were constants that inspired all
who knew her.
She met her beloved husband, Robert Samuel (Bob) Young, while working with special needs students at
the University of Utah. The couple got married on July 1, 1971, in the Logan Temple. Their marriage lasted
54 years, a testament to their enduring love and partnership.
Sabra was a woman of many passions and talents. She delighted in family history, gardening, painting,
reading, and traveling. She cherished time spent camping and hiking, reveling in the beauty of nature. Her
adventurous spirit, infectious happiness, diligence, and unwavering support made her a treasure to all who
knew her.
Sabra’s legacy lives on through her devoted family: her husband Bob; her daughter Sephora (Sephie)
Tietjen Young Bruns and husband Jared Clayton Bruns, their children Bethany Anne Bruns; Emily
Elizabeth Bruns McFadden and husband Ashton Wayne McFadden, (her great-grandchildren Kinley
Elizabeth McFadden and Kameron Wayne McFadden); Ashley Allison Bruns and boyfriend Nicholas
Anthony Reppucci, Oliver (Brady) Andrew Bruns, Robert Moroni (Rob) Young and his wife Katie Lynne
Frost Young, their children Jessica (Jesse) Lane Young, Jackson (Jack) Young and fiancé Allison Janelle
Jackson, Dylan Michael Young; and Ariel Asahel Young and her children Brandon Reid Young, and Sarah
Evelyn Young.
She is also survived by her siblings Mary Lee Pierce Parkes and husband Melvin Thomas Parkes, Arthur
Clyde Pierce, Jr., Lourena Pierce Phillips and husband Thomas Fred Phillips, and Arwella Pauline Pierce
Curtis and husband Cory Romney Curtis.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Clyde Pierce, Sr. (2002) and Mary Pierce (2005); her
half-sister Gloria Ann Pierce (1949); her sister Nancy Ellen Pierce Searle (2021); her daughters Cassia
Dorethea Young Vandersteen (1998) and husband Darin Dorel Vandersteen (1998) and Heather Esther
Young (1998).
Sabra made the selfless decision to donate her body to education, ensuring that she would continue to
teach others even after her passing. In her honor, a memorial stone will be placed in the Salt Lake City
Cemetery alongside her parents and her daughter Heather. There are no plans for a funeral.
Instead of flowers, Sabra requested that the flowers remain to grow. She also encouraged loved ones to
save their money for their families rather than donating. Her kindness, joy, and wisdom will forever be
cherished by those who knew and loved her.
