Ruth's obituary
Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Yancey passed away in Conroe, Texas on March 13, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born on December 18, 1936 in Mississippi, and later moved to Illinois.
Ruth was a pioneer in teaching her children to know their worth, experience life through traveling, reading and different cuisines. She extended her kindness to everyone she knew and met. Her humor was limitless.
Ruth was very active in the Israel of God’s Church in Rockford, Illinois, until she became ill. She was the piano player, choir member, and led cooking classes.
Ruth was married to William E. Yancey, and of this marriage, 6 children were born: Gordon, Frank, Ruth Sockwell, Brenda Knuckles (John), Andrea Benson (Rashidi), and Angela Henson (Victor); 18 grandchildren; 67 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; her siblings: brothers: Vance King (Julie), and Larry King (Henrietta); sisters: Carolyn Pickett (Rev. Norman), and Bonnie Gilmore; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, church family, and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.
