Ruth's obituary
Ruth Ann Noland, 78, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas, on March 28, 2025. She was born on May 22, 1946, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Neill David Noland and Viola Margaretta Darmstatter.
Ruth graduated from Catonsville High School in 1964 and began her career with the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland. When asked about her role there, she would wryly reply that she "counted kernels of corn." Over the years, she held various positions, including nurse's assistant and pharmacy technician, and spent many years as the receptionist at McLean Contracting in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
A proud Marylander, Ruth embraced her roots and loved supporting all things related to her home state, especially cheering on the Orioles. She cherished her Noland family connections and enjoyed attending reunions across North Carolina, Virginia, Arkansas, and Maryland. A lifelong Methodist, Ruth was a member of Catonsville Methodist Church, Hughes Springs Methodist Church, and Glen Burnie United Methodist Church. She also found joy in gardening, reading, collecting antiques, refurbishing furniture, and spending time with friends and family.
Ruth moved to Hughes Springs, Texas, in 1980 where her family ran the Hughes Springs Pharmacy. She spent 18 years in rural northeast Texas raising her daughters before returning to Maryland in 1997. She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Blackwell and Emily Blackwell (Don Crouch); her sister, Nancy Connelly; her nephews, Brian Connelly (Beth), Scott Connelly (Diane), Kevin Connelly (Melissa), Ken Miller (Jennifer), James Miller, and Mark Selby (Kendall); her brother-in-law, Rick Miller; and many loved grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Linda Miller.
In accordance with Ruth’s wishes, no memorial service is planned. Arrangements have been made with Eternal Reefs to create a living legacy in her honor. Family and friends will have the opportunity to attend the reef ball casting and viewing at a future date.
Ruth’s memory will live on through the lives she touched and the love she shared.
