Ruth's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ruth Camirand, on May 14, 2024. Born on September 25, 1934, Ruth lived a long, full life marked by kindness, resilience, and unwavering love for her family. Born in Reading, Massachusetts to Frank Lewis and Edna Stahl Lewis, Ruth was the youngest of 6 children. She graduated from Reading Memorial High School in 1952. At the age of 21, Ruth moved on her own to an apartment in Boston and began a professional dance career; working at well-known nightclubs, including The Cave, often frequented by many celebrities like Jerry Lewis and Frank Sinatra. Ruth shared an incredible journey of love and companionship with her loving husband, Donald Richard Camirand, whom she met while they were both dance instructors at Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Boston; they married only four months after meeting in 1958. Their remarkable journey of love, patience, and mutual respect stands as a testament to their enduring love for one another. Ruth and Donald settled down to raise three children in Boston, but then followed Donald's parents and sister out to California in 1978. Arriving in Bakersfield, they managed several apartment complexes together. In the mid-1980s, Ruth began her career as a Master Transcriptionist for the Bakersfield Police Department, in which she took great pride in her work and her ability to type 120+ word per minute! In 1988, Ruth and Donald moved to San Jose, CA, where Ruth held a number of Executive Assistant positions for multiple technology companies. In 1999, they both retired and moved back to Bakersfield to be close to their children.

Ruth’s memory and spirit will live on through her beloved husband of 65 years, Donald. Ruth's legacy will continue through her three children, Eric (Sherri), Andrea (Kevin)and Cynthia (Eric V.), six grandchildren, Brittany (Alex), Jeffrey, Dagan (Erica), Miranda (Brandon), Gabriella (Daniel), and Ryan, and great-granddaughter, Lilly. Ruth's loving nature and nurturing spirit made her a pillar within her family. Her wisdom and guidance have left an indelible mark on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.

Ruth was a woman of grace and compassion, and style, never leaving the house without her high heels and lipstick on! Her fierce independence and strong will made her a role model to the women in her family to seek out their own individual path in life. Though she will be sorely missed, her influence and values will continue to inspire those she left behind.

We take comfort in knowing that Ruth lived a fulfilling life, filled with love, laughter, and countless beautiful moments. As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her life and the wonderful memories we shared with her. The void left by her departure can never be filled, but the remembrance of her love and compassion will forever remain in our hearts.
