Ruth's obituary
Ruth Irene Bell, 84, recently of Anaheim Hills, passed away January 4, 2018 in Yorba Linda, California.
A life celebration and memorial service will be held at San Antonio Catholic Church in Anaheim Hills on January 26th at noon for family and friends.
Ruth was born in South Bend, Indiana on June 19, 1934 to Raymond and Edna Borntrager. She spent her childhood years in St Louis and South Bend but her family moved to Michigan in the late 1940’s and Ruth graduated from Royal Oak High School in Royal Oak, Michigan in June of 1952.
Ruth attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor but transferred to Michigan State in Lansing. She married Tom Bell of Niles, Michigan and their first son, Todd, was born in Lansing. Early in 1959, Ruth and her new family moved to California where she had three more sons, Scott, Michael and Tim. Ruth lived in Diamond Bar for the next 18 years and then moved to Upland after the boys left for college.
Ruth obtained her bachelor’s degree and her Master’s in Education from Cal Poly Pomona in the early 1980’s and was a substitute teacher while obtaining her credential and ultimately a full time teacher in the Ontario Montclair School district.
Ruth taught elementary school primarily at Margarita elementary and was renowned for her dedication to her students and her science projects.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Edna, sister Dottie and her son Michael. She is survived by her sister Mary (Royal Oak, MI). Her sons and their spouses, Todd and Jackie Bell, Scott and Debbie Bell, Tim and Ellen Bell, and daughter in law Lori Bell. Ruth was also the very proud grandmother of eight grandchildren, Thomas, Nicole, Tyler, Katie, Chad, James, Shannon, and Travis.
Remembrances may be made to a local chapter of the Humane Society or SPCA, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
