Rutha Dell's obituary

Ruth Adel Collins, affectionately known as “Rutha Dell,” passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family — her son Barry Collins (Keith Webster), her son Kenneth Collins (Darlene), and her cherished grandchildren, Kenny and Kendra.

Born on June 27, 1948, in Garnett, South Carolina, Ruth was the daughter of the late Richardson Moultrie Sr. and Annie Bell Moultrie. She was preceded in death by her beloved sisters Annie Bell and Joan, two uncles, one aunt and two nephews and one niece.

A proud graduate of Springfield College, Ruth devoted her professional life to serving others as a mental health therapist. She had a deep passion for traveling and treasured every moment spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a founding member, president of the usher society and missionary of Zion Community Baptist Church in Springfield, Massachusetts, where her faith was the cornerstone of her life’s work.

Ruth was known for her generosity, her readiness to help anyone in need, and her gift for sharing words of wisdom and inspiration. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons Barry and Kenneth; her daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Darlene and Keith; her beloved grandchildren, Kendra and Kenny; and her former husband, Mack Collins. She is also survived by her devoted siblings — Bertha Vickers (Roosevelt) of Tampa, Florida, Beatrice Jenkins (Maceo), Lillian Moultrie, Estella M. Moultrie, Ale Moultrie, Richard Moultrie (Sandy), and Leon Moultrie — all of Springfield, Massachusetts; and a loving aunt, Harrisene Jacobs. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues who will miss her dearly.

In keeping with her wishes, a memorial service will be held in Massachusetts on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the church she loved and served for so many years. Zion Community Baptist Church, 1140 Roosevelt Ave, Springfield, MA 01109. A celebration of her life for immediate family and friends with food, music, and the kind of joy she always brought in a room will follow.
