Russell's obituary

Russell Scott (Rusty) Westbrook Sr., age 64, of East Peoria, Illinois, passed away on April 29, 2025, in East Peoria.

Born on August 25, 1960, to Robert Hugh and Charlotte (Redshaw) Westbrook, Rusty grew up in East Peoria.

During his high school years, he enjoyed playing both baseball and football, activities that reflected his athleticism and love for sports.

He retired two years ago as an operator for the Operating Engineers Union 649 in Peoria, where he was employed for 15 years.

Rusty was the husband of Kathy (Kommer) Westbrook and a devoted father to his son Russell Jr. and daughter Kenzie. He also embraced his role as a stepfather to Brianna Meyer and Brittaney (Joseph) Groeller with warmth and care.

His five grandchildren, Scarlett, Brielle, Grace, Draya, and Joseph, brought him immense joy and were a cherished part of his life. Rusty's children were the center of his world, providing him with purpose and happiness.

He is also remembered by his father, Robert Hugh Westbrook Sr., and siblings Randy (Linda) Westbrook, Rodney (Toni) Westbrook, and Renee (Steve) Thompson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte (Redshaw) Westbrook, and his brother, Robert (Gayle) Westbrook Jr.

Rusty lived a life marked by quiet strength and a gentle demeanor. He was known for his calm presence and compassionate nature. Never one to seek the spotlight, he found fulfillment in simple pleasures and time spent with family.

Those who knew him will remember Rusty as kind-hearted and steady, a man whose love for his family was unwavering.

May the memory of Russell Scott “Rusty” Westbrook bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
