Rusty's obituary
Russell “Rusty” Vance Stafford of Tampa, Florida, was promoted to Heaven on November 3, 2025. Born February 10, 1959, in Clair Mel City, Florida, to Norman and Donnie Stafford, Rusty lived life on his own terms — full of humor, heart, and a love for his family.
Rusty was married to the love of his life, Kelley Stafford. His love for Kelley was profound and unwavering — she was his partner, his best friend, and the center of his heart. Their bond was full of laughter, support, and countless shared memories, and he cherished every moment spent with her.
He was a loyal and dependable presence in the lives of his stepchildren, Nicholas Tucker (Meredith) and Kristina Barry (Brian), and took immense pride in all they accomplished. Rusty never missed an opportunity to share with anyone how proud he was of them. He felt the same pride for his grandchildren — Leah and Audrey Tucker, and Breelyn, Luke, Liam, and Bella Barry. Rusty is also survived by his brother and best friend, Randy Stafford.
A Florida boy at heart with a mountain-loving spirit, Rusty loved Maggie Valley, NC, and treasured quality time with Randy and Nick, especially fishing and golfing together. He shared what he called his “Book of Knowledge,” teaching Kristina to drive a manual Mustang 5.0 and bait a fishing line. He always had a trusty truck — ready to haul, pull, or help a friend in need.
Rusty lived for fishing, camping, card tricks, friendly bets, karaoke, and making people laugh. He had the funniest sayings — “hey sweetback” and “boss man” were classics — and he never met a stranger. God truly broke the mold when He made Rusty.
His family will hold a small tribute and invites everyone who knew him to share stories and photos on this page.In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to watch the Grace Train sermon series (https://coe22.com/sermons/gra…) Rusty would want to share the kind of hope he experienced before going to be with the Lord. If you’d like a copy of the accompanying book, the family would be honored to send one to you in Rusty’s name.
Rusty’s love, laughter, and lessons will live on in everyone who had the privilege to know him — and there’s no doubt he’s already making Heaven a little louder and a lot more fun.
