Russell's obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Russell Scott Hamilton, fondly known as Scotty, who was born on October 31, 1946, and died on January 3, 2026 at his home in Washington. A man of multiple talents and warm character, Scotty genuinely touched the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In 1964, Scotty served in the US Navy as a radarman on a destroyer and was deployed to Vietnam. After his military service, he worked as a compassionate home health nurse, giving loving care to hospice patients. This was one of his greatest accomplishments, reflecting his empathetic nature and deep commitment to others.
Scotty was a man of intellect and diverse interests. He enjoyed old black and white movies, old time radio shows, classical artists, and historical literature. He had a talent for playing the saxophone and a keen interest in jazz music. Scotty was also a gifted chess player, a skill he taught to his younger sisters and nephews. Among his preferred recreational activities was following the stock market, which he keenly pursued as a day trader. His travels took him across Eastern Europe and South America, revealing his love for adventure and cultural exploration.
Scotty was a supporter of the Democratic Party and actively backed candidates across several states, reflecting his commitment to societal issues and change. His personality was friendly. He was gregarious, funny, and very sweet, always ready to share joy and laughter.
He is survived by his sisters, Shelley McNeal and Julie Sullivan, and his nephews, Douglas, Scott and J. Hesselgesser, Matthew and Thomas McNeal. His father, Francis Gosman, and mother Thelma Roby Swift, predeceased him.
Scotty’s legacy lives on in the love and care he showed to his family, especially his great nephews and great nieces. His long phone calls and endearing messages will be deeply missed. He would often say, “this is Uncle Scotty from the west coast, love to you and yours.” Those words will continue to echo in our hearts and remind us of his enduring love.
