Rusty's obituary

It is with remarkable sadness that we announce the death of Russel "Rusty" Steward, a dedicated father, son, brother, and an exemplary figure in our community. Rusty, as he was affectionately called, passed away on September 27, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, respect, and enduring memories. Born on August 25, 1969, Rusty lived a life dedicated to service and family.

Rusty is survived by his two sons, Kevin Steward and Kyle Steward, his brother Anthony Steward (Wife Rose Steward), his sister Melynda Steward (Partner Eric Stohry), and his mother Marilyn Steward and his Girlfriend Michelle Kennedy. He was predeceased by his father, Richard Steward.

Rusty was an alumni of Largo High School, graduating in the class of 1987. He further pursued his passion for the outdoors and graduated with a B.A. in Parks and Recreation from Slippery Rock University in 1991. Rusty's love for nature led him to a fulfilling career as a National Park Ranger in 1992. In 1996, he relocated to Naples, FL, where he began serving his community as a member of the Collier County Sheriff's Office.

Among Rusty's proudest moments are the births of his two sons, whom he welcomed on July 16, 2000, and December 29, 2003. He played an active role in their lives as a caring, fun, and loving father. Rusty was also a Scout Master at the Boy Scouts of America, a role he cherished immensely.

Rusty lived his life to the fullest, with hobbies including fishing, woodworking, and boating. His favorite relaxation moments often included a bottle of Miller Lite in his hand, relaxing on the boat, fishing with his two sons.

However, Rusty's greatest accomplishment and pride were his two sons, whose growth and achievements were a testament to his loving influence. Rusty leaves us all a legacy of respect and love, a life lived in service to nature, and a devotion to his family.

A memorial service for Rusty will be held on October 13, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Naples. In these moments of profound grief, we hold onto the memories and lessons Rusty has left behind, even as we say our final goodbyes.
