Tony's obituary

Rudolph "Tony" Cartwright, Jr., fondly known as Tony, was born on July 23, 1981 and departed from this world November 8, 2024. His charismatic and magnetic energy made him a personality that was hard to forget. Tony lived his life in full color, unapologetically pursuing his artistic interests and hobbies, even when viewed as unconventional.

Tony was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Joyce Cartwright (2016), and is survived by his father, Rudolph "Tony" Cartwright, Sr.; his sister, Nikkol Sanga; and his cherished niblings, Rye (Isis) Cartwright and Jayce Sanga. His family was a source of deep love, inspiration, and pride throughout his life.

A natural performer, Tony was no stranger to the spotlight. His vibrant energy and passion for the arts led him to perform on numerous stages across the United States and abroad. An accomplished actor and singer, skilled in ballet, jazz, and tap dance, instrumental music (clarinet and saxophone), and a dynamic writer, Tony's artistic legacy is rich and diverse.

But it wasn’t only art that Tony excelled at—he was also a professional chef, a passion deeply rooted in the kitchen traditions of his parents, both masterful cooks. He melded his inherited skills with his own creative vision, crafting a unique blend of culinary artistry that honored his family’s legacy while expressing his own flair.

Tony lived by the principle of expressing himself without fear and ventured boldly into the world.  One of his early musical influences Jonathan Larson composed the phrase, "No day but today", a sentiment that perfectly captures the essence of Tony's approach to life. He encouraged those around him to do the same, leaving a powerful imprint on everyone he encountered.

He was known for his loyalty and his consistent readiness to stand up for the people he loved. It was the way Tony amplified every event or activity that he was part of, turning up the volume and raising the energy levels wherever he went, that will be deeply missed and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In memory of Tony, a tribute celebration concert will be held on Wednesday July 23, 2025, at 7:00 PM at Cosmo Joe's Atomic Lounge at 121 N Ludlow St. in Dayton, Ohio.  This venue is the former location of Tony's hometown favorite club, City Cafe, and will be a night to remember!  Full of friends old and new coming together the way Tony would’ve loved—through laughs, drafts, dishes, and jams.   Donations for the event can be made at https://everloved.com/life-of….

His energy, his passion and his vast drive to live life to its fullest will serve as a lasting legacy. Tony's impact on others will not be forgotten - he was, and will continue to be, a standout persona in the hearts of all who knew him.
