Ruby's obituary
Ruby Nell Peak Strong the youngest child of Sherman and Bessie Degree Peak was born on 1 September 1940 in Shelby North Carolina and departed her earthly home in Columbia South Carolina on 28 December 2022.
She is survived by one daughter Althea Marie Lockhart (Thomas), 5 grandchildren Natalie Lockhart-Wells (Raymond), Tomeka Lockhart, Thomas J Lockhart III, Marshall Lockhart (Michelle) and Elyssa Lockhart. 13 great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband James Cleo Strong, her brother James Walter Peak, sister Helen Lipscomb and sister Edna Gray. Ruby worked most of her life in the hospitality industry. She had a fiery personality and never met a dog she didn’t love. She loved to talk and share stories about her life. She loved our neighbors Rose, Mike, Tawana and Ron. We thank them for their kindness and friendship for what she called herself “an old lady”. Ruby was hearing impaired for her entire life but she never let that stop her from doing anything she chose to do. She will be missed by many but she is in a far better place away from pain.
The family would like to thank the many neighbors and friends who have sent their condolences.
There will be a small gathering at the home of Thomas and Althea Lockhart at 200 Ridge Trail Drive Columbia SC following the service.
South Carolina Cremation Society is in charge with Thompson Funeral Home on Lessburg Rd officiating.
