I used to know Tony long ago when I worked in the cafeteria at BUMC in 1984 (called University Hospital back then) when I was a young girl not even 18 years old. I remember him when the love of his life was Joan McDonald. I loved them both very much and they were both dear friends I've never forgotten. I'm so sorry to hear he has passed away. Tony was a really nice person. Fly high old friend even though we haven't seen each other in years I still think of you, Joan and baby Amie who's not a baby any more. He was a good man.

One of the most loyal friend that you could have. Always good for a great laugh and baseball talk. Wish we could have many more of those moments. Will be missed!

One of the biggest influences in my life. How I wish I had more moments with him.

Gabus was a doozie. I had the honor of knowing and laughing endlessly with him for many years. I was brought into the Salpointe fold by Jay John, Chuck McCollum, and Tom Joseph. A tough, but loyal group to infiltrate for a Sahuaro grad.
I am not a baseball fan. I love the hot dogs, peanuts and beer. That's it. He knew that. Thus, whenever we got together, he would insist on spouting baseball stats, trivia, who's playing who and where, who's leading, who's fading ad nauseam...UGH It was torturous and all done for my "benefit".
What we did have in common was comedy. He and I loved the classic "Little Rascals" and would reenact certain scenes and skits. But our real connection was "All in the Family". He was an expert at episode recall and we would laugh for many hours over drinks over Archie Bunker's escapades.
He loved coaching and his State Championship at Catalina was a feat no one thought would happen. Only Gabus could have pulled this off...to me, this remains the diamond in his cap. He was never boastful or a braggart...his love of his players trumped everything else.
God Bless old friend. I know you are in a comfy chair with a drink watching replays of the Dodgers, The Little Rascals, and, of course, All in the Family. Say hi to Carrol O'Connor (Archie), and Spanky if you see them!
Amie, you were blessed with a wonderful father...he loved you dearly, and I know you carried his love of comedy in your heart. Continue to spread his legacy.
